Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the broad change from a farm to a site with newer uses, and note that the track became a road. However, the response reports very few of the map’s main features and gives no clear, accurate comparison of the two layouts. The claim that the barn was removed is misleading: a barn is still shown today, although its position has changed. The sheep area is not simply converted into solar panels and a camping field; today it includes several distinct uses, including parking and a farm shop. The response is also far below the required 150 words, so important changes are left unexplained. Describe the key additions, retained features and relocations to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overall statement beginning with “Overall,” and you use “Furthermore” to add another point. This gives the reader a simple sense of sequence. However, the response is extremely brief and the ideas are compressed into one paragraph, so there is little progression or grouping of details. The final “but” introduces a contrast without explaining what remained unchanged, and the reference to “the bottom of track” is not sufficiently clear. Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, overview and specific comparisons, and connect related changes with clear references such as “in the eastern part of the site.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “site,” “sheep,” “solar panels,” “camping field,” “track” and “road,” which helps communicate the general subject. However, the range is very limited, and several spelling errors make key terms harder to recognise: “ant,” “occured,” “fildes,” “panals” and “campain.” Some phrasing is also imprecise, such as “large place of sheep” and “the information of site.” Use accurate labels from the maps and a wider set of change verbs and location phrases. For example, describe facilities as being “added,” “retained” or “relocated,” and specify where they are situated rather than relying on broad descriptions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both a simple opening sentence and a longer sentence with several clauses, so there is some variety in structure. However, grammatical control is inconsistent. The opening lacks an article and a complete time expression (“the site of a farm … at the present”), while “many changes have occured” does not use the correct spelling of the past participle. The sentence beginning “Overall” contains several clauses joined without clear punctuation, and “barn is removed” uses an unsuitable tense for describing a completed change. Capitalisation after the full stop in “but” is also incorrect. Practise accurate articles, past-tense forms and sentence boundaries, then use present and past forms consistently to compare the maps.
