Student answer (Band 5.0)

The plan illustrate information about the site of farm in 1950 and the same site today. there were many changes than past.

Overall, the plan in the year 1950 had some farms of fruits, soft fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, some sheep farms were in the corner and opposite of the sheep farm farmhouse, barn, and chicken.

On the other hand, today's plan has few places similar such as, fruit trees, soft fruits, and vegetables so on. However, some places are new. For example, farm shop, parking, camping field, solar panels, and holiday cottages. The track is replace into road and barn place also change than past. Moreover, parking, camping field and solar panels replace the sheep farm.

To summarise the site of a farm, it can be said that there are many differences in the farm than past. Along with this, fewer new places also are there and track, sheep farm replaced with new places.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant changes, including the continued presence of fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables, and the addition of a farm shop, parking, camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the comparison is only partly developed: the overview is vague, and important spatial changes are not clearly described. For example, the sheep area is replaced by camping and solar panels, while the original track becomes an internal road; the barn and farmhouse also remain, though their surroundings change. Some details are imprecise, such as calling the plots “farms.” The response is 147 words, three words below the required minimum, which limits the opportunity to report the main features fully. Develop a clearer overview and describe the locations and changes more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has some organisation: it begins with an introduction, then contrasts the earlier and current plans, and ends with a summary. Basic linking phrases such as “Overall,” “On the other hand,” and “Moreover” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear, and the final paragraph largely repeats the claim that there are differences rather than adding a useful comparison. Several details are grouped in long lists, while spatial relationships are difficult to follow—for example, “in the corner and opposite of the sheep farm farmhouse, barn, and chicken.” Use separate paragraphs for the overview and key changes, and organise details by area or by what remained and what was added. This would make the comparison easier to follow and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of relevant map vocabulary, including “fruit trees,” “soft fruits,” “vegetables,” “parking,” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can identify many of the features. However, vocabulary is limited and some word choices or combinations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the description unclear. For instance, “farms of fruits” and “sheep farms” do not accurately name the land uses shown; “plots” or “fields” would be more suitable. The phrase “the track is replace into road” also does not express the change naturally. Repeated use of “places” and “new places” is imprecise. Build a more precise set of terms for map features and changes, such as “remained,” “was converted into,” “was added,” and “occupied the former sheep area.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few different sentence patterns, including contrast with “On the other hand” and a concluding phrase beginning “To summarise.” However, the range is limited, and frequent errors in basic sentence construction and agreement sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “The plan illustrate” needs subject–verb agreement, while “there were many changes than past” has an incomplete comparison. In “The track is replace into road,” the verb form and sentence pattern are faulty. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent, as in “site of farm” and “farmhouse, barn, and chicken.” Use accurate past and present forms to compare the maps, and check each sentence for a clear subject, verb and complete comparison.
