Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad change from a working farm to a site with visitor facilities, mentioning the camping field, solar panels, cottages and parking. You also note that the farmhouse and chicken area remain, and that the track has become a road. However, the overview is vague, and several comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: the sheep area is not simply replaced by solar panels and parking, while the barn remains on the site rather than being replaced by cottages. The response also omits important changes, including the farm shop and the continued fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas. To strengthen the report, give a clear overview of what changed and what stayed, then describe the main locations accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an identifiable opening, overview and two body paragraphs, and phrases such as “Overall,” “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the two body paragraphs do not organise the map changes consistently, and some references are unclear—for example, “the area of barn” and “the triangular shape of road corner the barn.” The contrast markers do not always express a clear contrast, and several ideas are crowded into long sentences. Grouping the information by location or by retained versus added features, and using clearer links between points, would make the account easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “camping field,” “solar panels,” “holiday cottages,” “parking area” and “triangular shape.” This gives the reader a basic sense of the features being compared. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning unclear, such as “layout of form,” “structure of beechwood farm” and “the area of barn had replaced from holiday cottages.” “Form” is also repeated where “farm” is intended, and “additional sites are added” is not a natural way to describe new facilities. Use precise terms such as “farm layout,” “was converted into,” and “new facilities were added,” while varying verbs for changes and locations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to use longer sentences and comparisons, but control is inconsistent, and errors frequently make relationships between features difficult to understand. For example, “the form in 1950 the area of sheep is replaced” lacks a clear sentence structure and uses an unsuitable tense; “the form house and chickens remained same” is missing articles; and “the triangular shape of road corner the barn is present” has no clear grammatical relationship between its parts. Tense and agreement also shift across the response, including “had selected and reported” and “are added today.” Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with clauses such as “while” or “whereas,” keeping past and present time references consistent.
