Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant changes, including the sheep area becoming a camping field, the addition of solar panels and a farm shop, and the track developing into roads. However, the response covers the plans only partially: it does not describe important changes such as the holiday cottages replacing the barn, or explain which features stayed in their original positions. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the farm’s size is not shown to increase, and the farmhouse, chickens, soft-fruit and vegetable areas are not all unchanged. The final sentence is incomplete and adds little comparison. The response is also 104 words, below the required 150; this limits the detail available to summarise the main features. Develop a clear overview and compare locations more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then giving an overview of changes. Linking expressions such as “Overall” and “Whereas” show an effort to connect ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several changes are crowded into one paragraph, and the final sentence, “In past, farm consisted of…”, is unfinished and does not clearly connect to the preceding points. “Whereas” is also used without a complete contrasting clause. Separate the introduction, overview and specific comparisons into clear paragraphs, and group related features by location or by what changed and remained. Use linking words only where the relationship between ideas is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses some relevant map vocabulary, including “farmhouse,” “fruit trees,” “camping field,” “parking area” and “solar panels,” so the reader can recognise several features. There are also attempts at more formal wording, such as “established” and “replaced.” However, word choice and spelling are sometimes inaccurate or awkward: “same side” should be “same site,” “installment” is not suitable for adding panels, and “Bar” appears to mean “Barn.” “Solar plant” is also an imprecise label for solar panels. The range is limited, with repeated use of “area” and “established.” Build a more precise set of verbs for describing map changes and check spelling of labels.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and a longer overview, but the range of sentence structures is limited and errors are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. For example, “The two diagram illustrate” has a plural agreement error, while “Farmhouse, chickens, soft fruits and vegetable area have remained unaltered” lacks articles and does not clearly identify the features. The sentence beginning “Whereas” is a fragment, and “In past, farm consisted…” also needs an article and a complete, accurate construction. Punctuation is inconsistent, including the missing space after “time.” Practise accurate simple comparison sentences first, then combine them with clauses using “while” or “whereas,” checking agreement, articles and sentence completeness.
