Student answer (Band 5.0)
The plans show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today. Overall, it is more modernized and tracks are converted into roods. River and main rood remain on the same place.
To begin with, the place for sheep in 1950, has totally changed today. Camping field is added for the campers and Solar panels where introduced for electrcity and also parking is added on the both sides of the road. The track is converted into road. The main carpet road remain on the same place and river is also on the same place.
Moreover, Fruit trees remain on the same place but farm shop is added for selling fruit which is directly connected to the road. Soft fruit and vegetables both remain on the same place. Barn is replaced into the holiday cottages while, barn is directly connected to the roundabout. Farmhouse and chickens are also on the same place.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two plans and give a general overview that the farm has become more modernised, then mention several relevant changes, including the camping field, solar panels, parking and farm shop. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear: the barn is not replaced by holiday cottages; the cottages are south of the eastern road, while the barn remains in a different position. The claim that the fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables all remain in the same place also overlooks changes in their layout and surrounding access. The response is 141 words, below the 150-word minimum. To develop the report, describe the main changes more precisely and include the new cottages and road layout accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic, recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by two paragraphs describing changes. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with” and “Moreover” help signal the progression. However, the organisation is not consistently clear because several different features are crowded into long sentences, and some links between them are confusing—for example, “Barn is replaced into the holiday cottages while, barn is directly connected to the roundabout.” Repetition of “remain on the same place” also limits the flow. Group changes by area or by what stayed versus what was added, and use clearer references to distinguish the barn, farmhouse and cottages.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “camping field,” “solar panels,” “farm shop” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can identify many of the features being compared. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “tracks are converted into roods,” “main carpet road” and “Barn is replaced into the holiday cottages.” There are also spelling errors such as “electrcity” and “rood.” Use precise terms for map features and change, such as “internal road,” “remains in the same position,” “was converted into,” and “was replaced by.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, errors are frequent, particularly in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “Solar panels where introduced” uses the wrong verb form, while “the main carpet road remain” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening phrase “the place for sheep in 1950, has totally changed today” is awkwardly punctuated and structured, and “on the both sides” has an incorrect article pattern. Some clauses are joined unclearly, as in “while, barn is directly connected.” Practise accurate past and present forms and build shorter, complete comparison sentences before combining ideas.
