Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given maps represents a comparison between a farm in 1950 versus present time. Further, the comparison between two maps with its main features shall be discussed. The data is calculated based on visual presentation.

Overall, the huge landscape where sheep were kept has been eradicated and instead two parking areas, a camping field as well as a field full of solar panels have been developed.

To start with, the entire track is rebuilt as roads, the agricultural area consist of fruit trees, soft fruits as well as vegetables have not been changed rather a farm shop is introduced on the north-east direction of fruit trees. Additionally, the space for barn is replaced by new building like holiday cottages, also, the barn is resized and placed to the south direction of road that formed a triangular shape.

Moreover, Two parking slots are build near road, one is exact opposite to the farm shop whereas second is on the opposide side of holiday cottages. Also, a camping field and land dedicated to solar panels are developed where sheeps were used to be kept.On the oppossite side of Soft fruits camping field is built and Solar panels are kept to the east side of camping field.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the main transformation: the former sheep area is now used for parking, camping and solar panels, while the fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable plots remain. You also report the farm shop and holiday cottages, so the response covers the key changes and gives a relevant overview. This is a strong foundation, with some detail beyond a basic summary. However, a few locations are unclear or inaccurate: the shop is between the fruit trees and the internal road, rather than simply northeast of the trees, and the barn is south-west of the farmhouse at the road junction, not just south of the road. The final comparison of camping with soft fruits is also confusing. More precise spatial descriptions would make the account more complete and consistently clear.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and two paragraphs describing changes. This gives the reader a general route through the information, and phrases such as “To start with” and “Moreover” signal progression. However, the organisation within the detail paragraphs is not always easy to follow. The final paragraph repeats the camping-field and solar-panel information, and “On the opposite side of Soft fruits” does not make the intended location clear. Some linking phrases, including “Further” and “Additionally,” feel mechanical rather than helping show relationships between features. Group the changes by area or by retained and newly added features, and avoid repeating details to create a clearer progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant map vocabulary, including “agricultural area,” “parking,” “camping field,” “solar panels,” and “holiday cottages,” which allows you to describe the main developments. There is also some attempt at more formal phrasing. However, several word choices and collocations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “the data is calculated based on visual presentation,” “the entire track is rebuilt,” and “a field full of solar panels.” Spelling errors in “opposide” and “oppossite,” along with “sheeps,” also reduce accuracy. Use concise, conventional language for maps: for example, say that tracks were converted into roads and that solar panels were installed. More precise location phrases would also strengthen your descriptions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of sentence forms, including longer sentences with clauses linked by “whereas” and “also,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is uneven, particularly in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries. For example, “The given maps represents” should use a plural verb, while “the agricultural area consist” also has an agreement error. “The space for barn” needs an article, and “were used to be kept” combines incompatible verb patterns. The final paragraph also runs several ideas together, with inconsistent capitalisation after commas and a missing space after a full stop. Build accuracy by checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and divide long descriptions into complete, clearly punctuated sentences.
