Student answer (Band 5.5)

The plans demonstrate the Beechwood Farm in 1950 and in the present-day.

Overall, the most identical change can be seen in the sheep yard, and it got replaced by the Camping field with small parking on the corner and Solar panels onto the right side, also with the parking facility. Apart from that, a few things have been changed in the farm area. Although there have been an addition of small shop. However, road quality is changed too.

In 1950, just after the entering into the farm, there had been three various kind of fields situated there( for the fruit, soft fruits and vegetables). Also, the track was not fully structured properly. In opposite of the fields, an enormous area was separated for the sheeps. At last, Barn house and a rectengular shaped Farmhouse were positioned at place with small area covered with fences for chickens.

In the present day, road is now fully structured, and those fields remain unchanged with the addition of a small Farm shop at the corner of the entrace. The sheep yard is replaced by the Camping area with small parking and Solar panels also with the parking facility. However, Barn house got reduced to a small, and changed it place near the vegetable field. Moreover a Holiday cottages taken the place of a barn house. A farmhouse and Chicken's place remained as it is.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main transformation from sheep pasture to a camping field and mention the new solar panels, farm shop and holiday cottages. You also note that the fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable plots remain, which is a useful comparison. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the plans show two parking areas, not simply “small parking” alongside the camping field, and the barn has not been reduced or moved near the vegetable field; it remains near the southern road junction. The overview’s claim that the sheep yard is the “most identical change” is also confusing. To make the summary more complete, clearly describe the road changes and distinguish what stayed in place from what was added or relocated.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for 1950 and today. This helps the reader follow the broad time comparison. However, progression within the overview is difficult to follow: “the most identical change” is unclear, and “Although there have been an addition… However…” creates a broken contrast. Some information is repeated, particularly the camping field, parking and solar panels in both the overview and final paragraph, while the relationship between the barn and cottages is confusing. Use clearer topic sentences and group changes by location or by what remained versus what was added. More precise linking and reference would make the comparison easier to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “fields,” “positioned,” “replaced,” “fences” and “facility,” and you attempt to describe spatial relationships. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “most identical change,” “road quality,” “fully structured,” and “Barn house.” These expressions make some features difficult to interpret. There are also spelling and form errors, including “rectengular,” “entrace” and “sheeps.” Aim for standard map-description language and use precise verbs for change and location, such as “remained,” “was converted into,” “was relocated” and “was situated.” This would improve clarity and give your vocabulary more flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “Although” and a relative clause beginning “which,” but control is inconsistent. Several sentences have faulty structure, for example, “Although there have been an addition… However…” and “Moreover a Holiday cottages taken the place…”. Verb forms and agreement are also problematic in “Barn house got reduced to a small” and “A farmhouse and Chicken's place remained as it is.” Articles, plurals and punctuation need attention as well. Practise forming complete clauses with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and tense consistency when describing past and present plans. More accurate sentence patterns would make the comparisons easier to understand.
