Student answer (Band 5.5)
The layout illustrates the upgradations of beechwood farm site from 1950 to 2026.
Overall, it is clear that the addition of solar pannels, camping field and parking areas are the significant changes. Furthermore, track is converted into the road and the Barn is replaced by the holiday cottages.
Considering the top side of the layout, the sheep yard is divided into four segments including, Solar pannels, capming field area, parking area and a tree.Farmhouse, Chickens, vegetables and soft fruit retained their sections. Farm shop is also a significant category in Fruit tree's region. Barn section is shifted along the Road crosssection.
In center, there was a track that is converted in to the road, which enhance the beacuty of the site. Today, beechwood farm is developed and it contained all the modern facilities. This great advancment made it more attractive and accessible. A large amount of changes are observed in the north region of the layout.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several major changes, including the new solar panels, camping field and parking, and note that the former track has become a road. However, the account is only partly accurate and leaves important spatial changes unclear. The sheep area is described as divided into four segments, but the current plan shows these as separate uses in the north-east, not subdivisions of the former sheep field. The barn is not replaced by holiday cottages: the barn remains, while the cottages are added near the farmhouse. You also say the farmhouse, chickens, vegetables and soft fruit retain their sections, although the farmhouse and chickens stay in place but the fields and other facilities need clearer comparison. Give a precise overview and describe the main changes by location.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an opening, an overview and a paragraph describing locations. Phrases such as “Overall” and “Considering the top side” help signal the stages of the description. However, progression is not consistently clear: the final paragraph shifts from the road to general claims about development and then back to the north region. Some references are also difficult to follow, particularly “Barn section is shifted along the Road crosssection,” which does not clearly identify the building’s position or change. Organise the body by areas of the map, such as the northern facilities and the central and southern buildings, and use explicit comparisons between 1950 and today. This would make the sequence easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “layout,” “retained,” “converted” and “significant changes,” and you attempt more specific terms such as “crosssection.” However, several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unclear, which sometimes makes the description difficult to interpret. “Upgradations” is not a natural way to describe changes to a site, while “enhance the beauty” and “great advancement” add unsupported evaluation rather than describing the plans objectively. There are also spelling errors in “pannels,” “capming” and “advancment,” and “tree” is too vague for the labelled camping field. Prefer precise, neutral terms for locations and changes, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including “Overall, it is clear that…” and “In center, there was a track that is converted in to the road.” However, errors in sentence construction, tense and agreement are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “the addition … are the significant changes” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “it contained all the modern facilities” uses a past form where the description concerns the present. The sentence beginning “Considering the top side” also has a faulty list structure, while “Farmhouse, Chickens, vegetables and soft fruit retained their sections” lacks a clear subject relationship and consistent articles. Use past tense for the 1950 plan and present tense for today, and build shorter, complete sentences with clear subjects.
