Student answer (Band 6.5)
The maps compare the layout of a farm in 1950 with the present-day arrangment.
Overall, the site has been significantly redeveloped from a traditional agricultural farm into mixed rural destination that combines farming with tourism and renewable energy. While the fruit growing areas, vegetables field and farm house have been retained, the sheep pasture has has been replaced by recreational and commercial facilities.
In 1950, the north corner of the farm was occupied by the large field for sheeps. Fruit trees were located in the north-west corner of the farm. While the soft fruits and vegetables were grown beside the fruit trees. On the eastren side a barn, farm house and chickens cage were located. Access was provided by a track from main road to the farm house building.
At present time, many of the agriculture features like fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, chickens cage and the farm house located at their original location. The most significant changes have occured in former sheep pasture, which ha been transfored into camping field and solar panels were installed in the north corner of the pasture. A farm shop was constructed in the north of the fruit trees area. The former barn was replaced by holidays cottages. Two parkings were also added one was opposite to holiday cottages and the other was at the north west corner of the former sheep field. The track was upgraded into road for better access to different areas of farm.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You give a clear overview of the main transformation, describing the move from a traditional farm towards tourism and renewable energy, and you identify several retained features, including the fruit-growing areas, vegetables, farmhouse and chickens. The comparison is supported with relevant details such as the camping field, solar panels, farm shop and two parking areas. This fulfils the task well and keeps the focus on the maps. Some location descriptions are imprecise: for example, the fruit trees were not in the north-west corner in 1950, and the present-day facilities are not all in their original locations. The barn’s change to holiday cottages is also stated, but the new barn is not mentioned. More precise comparisons of these changes would make the account more fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall progression: an overview is followed by a description of the 1950 layout and then the present-day changes. This makes the comparison easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In 1950,” and “At present time” help signal the stages. The final paragraph also groups several modern developments together. Some connections between details could be clearer, however. For instance, “The former barn was replaced by holidays cottages” is followed immediately by the parking areas, without explaining the new barn’s location or how the road branches serve the site. There are also awkward sentence boundaries, such as “While the soft fruits and vegetables were grown beside the fruit trees. On the eastern side…”. Use complete sentences and clearer spatial sequencing to make the progression smoother.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of vocabulary for describing land use and change, including “redeveloped,” “retained,” “recreational and commercial facilities,” and “upgraded.” These choices help convey the overall transformation and show some flexibility beyond basic map vocabulary. However, several word-choice, spelling and collocation errors reduce precision: “sheeps” should be “sheep,” “chickens cage” is better expressed as “chicken enclosure,” and “two parkings” should be “two parking areas.” “Arrangment,” “eastren,” “occured,” and “transfored” also contain spelling errors. Some phrases, such as “north corner,” are less precise than “north-eastern corner.” Check spelling carefully and choose standard collocations for map features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex structures, including the contrast in “While the fruit growing areas… have been retained, the sheep pasture…,” and most of the intended meaning remains understandable. However, some errors recur in sentence construction and verb forms. The overview has “has has been replaced,” while “many of the agriculture features… and the farm house located” lacks a finite verb in the second part. “The most significant changes have occured… which ha been transfored” also shows faulty auxiliary forms. Punctuation creates a run-on boundary in “fruit trees. On the eastern side,” and the sentence beginning “While the soft fruits…” is incomplete. Aim for complete clauses, check subject–verb agreement and auxiliaries, and proofread sentence boundaries.
