Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The map illustrate how beechwood farm changed from 1950 and how it looks like today.
Overall there is huge development over a period of time as road is constructed and also there are farm shop parking lot, barn, camping field, holiday cottages and additionally solar panels are installed while fruit tress, soft fruits, vegetables and farm house remains unchanged.
Mainly if we see the north south side of both maps, their is parking lot and farm shop at the start of the road which is mainly connected to the main road. In north there is also camping field now which was not before in 1950. The road further leads to barn which is on the west side of the map.
Moreover, there was no solar panels in 1950, but now they were installed in the north east side of the map also an additional parking lot is in south and holiday cottages is constructed by road side in south of the map.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the broad change from a working farm to a site with new visitor facilities, and your overview mentions the camping field, cottages, parking, farm shop and solar panels. However, several important comparisons are missing or unclear. The fruit trees, soft-fruit and vegetable areas remain in their original locations, and the farmhouse and chicken enclosure also remain; these are worth stating clearly. Some details are inaccurate: the farm shop is not at the start of the road, the barn is not on the west side, and the second parking area is beside the eastern road section rather than in the south. Develop the changes and unchanged features more precisely to make the summary more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, a general overview and two paragraphs describing changes. Linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover” and “also” help signal relationships between points. However, the progression is not consistently clear. The phrase “Mainly if we see the north south side” does not establish a clear organising principle, and the final paragraph combines the solar panels, parking and cottages without precise spatial sequencing. Some references, such as “their” and “which,” are difficult to follow. Organise the details by area—for example, the western fields, northern additions and eastern buildings—and use clear location references to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “constructed,” “installed,” “camping field” and “holiday cottages,” and you attempt to describe location with phrases such as “north east side.” However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, which makes some descriptions imprecise. “Huge development” is vague for a map comparison, while “parking lot” is less suitable than the more neutral “parking area.” There are also spelling errors such as “tress” for “trees,” and “farm house” should be written as one word. Build a more precise set of terms for describing locations and changes, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a contrast with “while” and a clause beginning “which,” but control is inconsistent. The opening has subject–verb and tense problems: “The map illustrate” should be “The map illustrates,” and “changed from 1950” needs a clearer time construction. Agreement errors also appear in “their is” and “holiday cottages is constructed.” Articles and sentence structure need attention in “as road is constructed,” while the long overview sentence is difficult to manage accurately. Use straightforward comparison patterns such as “In 1950…, whereas today…” and check subject–verb agreement, articles and past-versus-present forms in each sentence.
