Student answer (Band 5.0)

The maps below compare the agricultral site in 1950 and the same farm today. Overall, on the top right corner where the land for sheep is being replaced by camping field and solar panels, the farm shop is introduce in the fruit trees block and the Barn is replaced by the hpliday cottages.

In 1950, the Beechwood farm was attached with the road from front and with river on other side. The land where sheep were kept is expanded and divided from centre for two purposes, one for camping field with its own parking and other for solar panels with parking. Today, the Barn attached with the triangular road and Holiday cottages replace the old place of Barn.

The farm shop also introduces in the fruit trees field, soft fruits and vegetables are thier own places. Polttery farm present on the same place as well as the farmhouse. one other major change is that the track is recounstructed into Road which meet the main road on front side.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad change from sheep pasture to camping and solar-panel use, and note that the track became a road. However, the overview is unclear and includes important inaccuracies: the farm shop is not within the fruit-tree block, and the barn was not replaced by holiday cottages. The barn remains, while the cottages are added south of the eastern road; the farmhouse and chicken enclosure also remain. Some details are relevant, such as the continued fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas, but their locations and the changes to the farm buildings are not reported reliably. To strengthen the response, give a clear overview of the main developments and compare the key features accurately, distinguishing what was retained from what was added or relocated.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an attempted overview to descriptions of the two periods, and it uses simple links such as “Overall,” “In 1950,” and “Today.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the overview and later paragraphs repeat or contradict information. For example, the barn is first said to be replaced by cottages, then described as attached to the triangular road. References such as “the old place” and “other side” are also unclear, while several ideas are crowded into long sentences. Organise the report into a concise overview followed by clearly ordered comparisons of the western fields and eastern buildings, using precise references to locations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “camping field,” “solar panels,” “fruit trees,” and “triangular road,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, or word-form errors make parts difficult to interpret: “agricultral,” “hpliday,” “thier,” “Polttery,” and “recounstructed.” Phrases such as “attached with the road from front” and “the farm shop is introduce” are also unnatural. Aim for accurate map vocabulary and collocations, such as describing a road as branching from or connecting to another road, and use consistent terms for the farm’s buildings and land uses.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a comparison with “where,” but control is uneven and errors frequently affect clarity. Examples include “the farm shop is introduce,” “the land … is expanded and divided,” and “one other major change is that the track is recounstructed,” where verb forms and tense choices are faulty. Sentence boundaries and structure are also problematic: “Polttery farm present on the same place as well as the farmhouse” is incomplete, and the opening overview joins several ideas without clear grammatical relationships. Use the past tense for the 1950 plan and present tense for today, and build shorter, complete comparison sentences with clear subjects and verbs.
