Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the addition of a farm shop, camping facilities, solar panels and parking, and you attempt an overall comparison between 1950 and today. However, some key details are inaccurate or unclear. The barn has not simply shifted near the chickens: today it is south-west of the farmhouse, while the farmhouse remains in its former area and holiday cottages have been added to its north. The sheep area is replaced by camping and solar panels, but this change is described vaguely as the “place of sheep” advancing. You also overlook the continued fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable plots and do not clearly summarise the main pattern of development. More precise comparisons and a reliable overview would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about the shop, buildings and the other side of the road. This gives the reader some organisation. However, the progression is not consistently clear: “The another side of the road” does not specify which area is meant, and the final paragraph repeats the claim that the road and river are unchanged without adding much new information. Linking words such as “In addition” and “Beside that” are used, but relationships between features are sometimes difficult to follow. Group the description by location or by unchanged and changed features, and use clear references such as “north-east of the internal road” to guide the reader.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “river,” “fruit trees,” “farm shop,” “camping” and “holiday cottages,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. For example, “the interface between the river and road” is not a natural way to describe the site layout, and “the place of sheep has advanced” does not clearly express that the sheep area has been redeveloped. Spelling errors such as “vituals” and “panles” are also noticeable. Aim for precise location and change vocabulary, such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” and “is situated to the north-east of.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison beginning “While other places have not changed,” but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in sentence formation, verb forms, articles and punctuation. For instance, “The another side” has an incorrect article, “solar panles been included” is missing an auxiliary verb, and “neither have changed the track” does not form a clear grammatical sentence. Several sentences also run together after full stops, as in the opening. These problems can make relationships between features difficult to understand. Practise complete sentence patterns with accurate subjects and verbs, and check articles, auxiliary verbs and punctuation before finishing.
