Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the two time periods and mention several genuine changes, including the farm shop, holiday cottages, parking, solar panels and camping. However, the account is very brief and does not provide a clear overview of the site’s main transformation. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the farmhouse and barn are not both within the chicken area, and the barn’s position is not described as changing in the way stated. The sheep area is replaced by camping and solar panels, while the two parking areas are not both simply in that former area. The response also contains only 120 words, below the required 150, so important comparisons and locations are left undeveloped. Add a concise overview and accurately compare the main areas and buildings.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic chronological structure: it first describes 1950 and then introduces changes today with “However”. This gives the reader a simple way to follow the comparison. At present, though, the ideas within each paragraph are crowded together, and the second paragraph moves rapidly from the farm shop to cottages, the barn and the northern developments without clear grouping. The phrase “In chickens side” is also an unclear reference, while “the major development happened in sheep” does not establish precisely which area is meant. Use separate paragraphs for the earlier layout and today’s changes, and group features by location. Clear linking phrases such as “In the north-east” and “By contrast” would improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “fruit trees”, “soft fruits”, “farm shop”, “holiday cottages”, “solar panels” and “camping field”, which helps identify the map features. However, the range is limited, and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “Howere”, “Chikens”, “hoiliday” and “addional”. Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural: “farm land as addional developments” and “change the barn location to have road access from center”. Aim for accurate map-description language, including terms such as “was converted into”, “was added”, “located to the north-east” and “remained unchanged”. Proofreading spelling and choosing precise verbs will make your comparisons clearer.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the basic time contrast is understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences awkward or unclear. For example, “In 1950, beechwood farm is attached to river” shifts to the present tense and omits necessary articles; “In chickens part there is farmhouse and barn” has problems with articles and sentence structure. The sentence beginning “Howere, today the farm land…” is incomplete and then continues with inconsistent verb forms, as in “there is new … cottages built-in”. Use past tense for the 1950 plan and present tense for today, and build complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs. Check capitalization and punctuation between sentences.
