Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a relevant overview by identifying a shift towards commercial and leisure uses, while noting that the river and some crops remain. You also compare the former sheep area with the present camping field and mention the farm shop and solar panels. However, several important changes are omitted or unclear: the holiday cottages, the new road layout, and the barn and farmhouse are not described as changes or compared with their earlier positions. Some details are inaccurate or confusing, such as saying the farm shop takes the place of fruit trees and suggesting the track became “a new road or a parking.” Develop the overview and report the main changes more precisely, including what has been retained and what has been added or relocated.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction and overview are followed by descriptions of the western and central areas and then the north-east. This gives the reader a general route through the maps, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Furthermore,” and “In the central region” help signal relationships. However, the progression becomes less clear in the final paragraph, where solar panels and parking are mentioned without a clear comparison to 1950. Some sentences also combine several changes, making the relationships difficult to follow—for example, the sentence about the farm shop, parking and track. Use clearer topic sentences and group features by location or by what changed, while ensuring each comparison is easy to identify.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use a suitable range of map vocabulary, including “western sector,” “agricultural,” “repurposed,” “livestock area,” and “solar panels.” These choices help convey the broad transformation and show some flexibility beyond basic location words. At times, however, word choice and collocation are imprecise: “commercial facility” is broad for a farm with several new visitor uses, and “renewable energy resources” is less direct than naming the solar panels. Phrases such as “an addition … take place” and “the river and agricultural fields are remains the same” also make the intended meaning less natural. Aim for precise terms such as “converted into,” “introduced,” and “retained,” and check spelling and spacing, including “the left” and “alongside.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex forms, including the contrast in “While the main agricultural crops and river have been preserved” and the participle phrase “shifting from a purely agricultural site.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but some errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction remain. For example, “The two maps illustrates” should use a plural verb, while “the river and agricultural fields are remains the same” combines incompatible verb forms. “Key changes includes” also has subject–verb disagreement, and the sentence beginning “Furthermore” becomes difficult to parse because it joins several ideas without a clear grammatical structure. Use shorter, controlled comparisons and check agreement and verb forms when the subject is plural.
