Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two plans illustrate how Beechwood Farm has changed from 1950 to till today.

Overall, Beechwood Farm has become more developed and tourist oriented, with new hospitality facilities added or existing ones expanded, such as a Camping field, Parkings, Holiday cottages, a Farmhouse, and Solar panels area, and Roads.

In 1950, There were a few simple things like shows on north east side just sheep area and on sout east side plan present Barn, Farmhouse and open area for Chickens, and undeveloped road, while on the south west side plan shows few shops (fruit trees, soft fruits, and vegetables).

On today's plan, It appears with alot of development such as having (camping field, solar pannels, and parking) in north east side, while south east side shows (holiday cottages, Barn connected with roads), on center developed road, and on south west pole in the fruit trees garden built a farm shop and opposite it parking.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main overall change: the farm has become more developed and more oriented towards visitors, and you mention several new features, including camping, parking, cottages and solar panels. You also compare the two periods and refer to the retained fruit-growing areas and farm buildings. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the farmhouse was already present in 1950, so it should not be presented as a new facility, and the 1950 plan shows fields rather than “shops.” The description of the present layout is also incomplete; for example, the farm shop is between the fruit trees and internal road, while the second parking area is beside the eastern road. A more precise overview and clearer location comparisons would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the earlier and current plans. This gives the reader a basic progression through the information. You also use time markers such as “In 1950” and “On today’s plan” to signal the comparison. However, the body paragraphs contain several locations and features in long, loosely connected sentences, making relationships difficult to follow. For instance, the final sentence moves from the north-east to the south-east, then the centre and south-west without a clear organising route. Some linking is also mechanical, particularly repeated uses of “while.” Group details by area or by retained versus added features, and use clearer sentence boundaries and references.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for describing a farm plan, including “Camping field,” “Holiday cottages,” “Solar panels,” and “Farmhouse,” and “tourist oriented” communicates the broad change. However, the range and control are uneven. Some choices are inaccurate or imprecise: “shops” refers to the 1950 fields, “open area” is vague for the chicken enclosure, and “opposite it parking” does not clearly describe the farm shop’s position. There are also noticeable spelling and form errors, such as “pannels,” “alot,” and “Parkings.” Aim for precise map vocabulary and natural collocations, such as “fields,” “facilities,” “located beside,” and “visitor-oriented.” This would make the comparisons clearer and more appropriately formal.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, and the opening overview is understandable. However, some grammatical errors and punctuation problems make parts of the report difficult to follow. Examples include “from 1950 to till today,” “In 1950, There were,” and “on center developed road,” where sentence structure, articles or prepositions are not controlled. The long final sentence also combines several locations without clear grammatical links. Capitalisation after commas is inconsistent, and the parenthetical lists interrupt sentence flow. Use complete, shorter sentences with a clear subject and verb—for example, “In 1950, the north-east area was used for sheep”—then check articles, prepositions and punctuation.
