Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify that the maps compare Beechwood Farm in 1950 and today, and you mention several relevant changes, including the camping field, solar panels, farm shop and holiday cottages. However, the response is incomplete: it ends mid-sentence after “the removal of Sheep and”, so important changes are not reported, and there is no clear, complete overview of how the site has been redeveloped. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the cottages did not replace the barn; they are south of the eastbound road, while the barn remains in a different position. The claim that the lower area is largely unchanged also overlooks the new roads and altered facilities. The response is 134 words, below the required 150. Cover the main changes accurately and finish the comparison.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and overview before describing changes in different parts of the site. Phrases such as “Overall”, “The major development” and “However” help signal the direction of the comparison. However, progression is difficult to follow because the division into “lower” and “upper” sides is not consistently clear, and the final paragraph stops abruptly. Several ideas are crowded into long, loosely connected sentences, particularly the sentence beginning “The lower side of road or track…”. Punctuation and spacing also make links between points unclear. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the main groups of changes, and connect each comparison explicitly to its location.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “replacement”, “introduction”, “camping field” and “Holiday cottages”, which allows the reader to recognise the topic and several developments. However, the range is limited and there are repeated spelling and word-choice problems that sometimes make the meaning difficult to interpret. Examples include “camping filed”, “Fruit tress”, “Soft tress” and “Fram shop”; “site” and “change” are also repeated without much variation. Some phrases are not natural for describing plans, such as “the lower side of road or track” and “it shifts from there”. Aim for accurate labels and more precise location language, such as “to the south of”, “adjacent to” and “was relocated”.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts a few longer structures, including “The main difference of current site from 1950 structure of site is…” and “The lower side of road or track have little changes.” However, sentence patterns are limited, and errors in agreement, articles and sentence construction occur frequently enough to make some statements hard to follow. For example, “both images shows” should use a plural verb, while “The lower side … have” has the same agreement problem. The opening phrase “The two maps images compares” also combines nouns awkwardly and uses an incorrect verb form. Missing punctuation and the unfinished final sentence further affect accuracy. Practise clear comparative sentences, checking subject–verb agreement and articles, and ensure every sentence is complete.
