Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify several relevant features, including the fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, chickens and farmhouse, and you recognise that the farm has changed over time. However, the comparison is only partial and some details are inaccurate or unclear: the 1950 plan shows a sheep area and a barn, not “one large space” for chickens, barns or the farmhouse. Your description of today mentions the shop, camping and parking, but omits major changes such as the holiday cottages, solar panels and the altered road layout. The response also falls 21 words short of the 150-word minimum. To improve, give a clear overview of the main changes and describe the locations and uses of the key features accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic chronological structure: the first part describes the farm in 1950, and the second begins with “But know” to introduce today. This gives the reader some sense of comparison. However, each period is compressed into a long, loosely connected sentence, so the information does not progress clearly from one feature to the next. The repeated use of “one part” and “and” also makes relationships between details difficult to follow. Organise the response into separate paragraphs for the two plans, and use clear links such as “In contrast” or “Today” to signal changes. Shorter sentences grouped by location or function would make the description easier to understand.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fruit trees,” “vegetables,” “farm shop,” “camping area” and “parking.” These terms show an attempt to describe the plans, but the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or informal for an IELTS map report. For example, “architect of the farm” does not naturally describe a site layout, while “partying there” and “joy the moments” are conversational and do not report map features. Spelling errors such as “specifc” and “vehicels” also reduce clarity. Build a more precise set of terms for locations and changes, such as “is situated,” “was replaced by” and “the layout was reorganised.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to connect ideas using clauses, for example, “like fruit trees in one part and other specific area is for vegetables,” but sentence structures are often incomplete or difficult to interpret. There are frequent problems with articles, agreement and verb forms, as in “one large space is design for chickens” and “we sale our fresh fruits.” The shift to “we” also changes from describing the plans to discussing personal activities. Punctuation is limited, and the long sentences make these errors more disruptive. Practise writing complete, controlled sentences in the past for 1950 and the present for today, such as “In 1950, the site included…” and “Today, a camping field occupies…”
