Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The diagram illustrate the the plan of reconstructing the farm site by comparing the farm from 1950 to todays.

Nowadays, farmers upgrade their farm site cause these sites can also be rented for vacation purposes. People wants to explore the farm where they are provided with moderns day facilities for instance parking area for the safety of publics car.

Overall, the farm site is not only benefiting the farmer but also they changed the structure for public visits. Firstly they changed the tracks into road with parking lots for public car safety. They changed the sheep area into solar panels and camping area for people to visit and enjoy the nature. Moreover they change barns into holiday cottages for those who dont like camping.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the broad change from a working farm to a site with visitor facilities, and mention roads, parking, camping, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: it gives little account of the retained fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas, and does not describe the farmhouse, barn or river changes accurately. The claim that the barn was changed into cottages is incorrect; the cottages are near the farmhouse, while the barn remains. The opening also adds general speculation about farmers and visitors rather than reporting the map. The response is 124 words, below the required 150, which further limits the detail provided. To improve, give a clear overview and compare the main retained and newly introduced features with accurate locations.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to general comments and then an overview of changes. Linking words such as “Overall,” “Firstly” and “Moreover” help signal the sequence. However, the progression is not consistently clear because the second paragraph discusses general reasons for farm tourism rather than map information, and the final paragraph groups several changes without a systematic comparison of the two plans. Some references are also unclear, such as “they changed barns,” where the subject and the specific buildings are not precise. Organise the report by location or by features that remained and those that changed, and use links to show these relationships rather than relying mainly on a list of additions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing the plans, including “parking lots,” “solar panels,” “camping area” and “holiday cottages,” so the main topic is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “reconstructing the farm site” does not clearly describe the changes, “modern day facilities” is awkward in this context, and “public car safety” is not a natural way to refer to parking. Repetition of “farm,” “site” and “changed” also limits precision. Use map-reporting terms such as “converted,” “retained,” “replaced” and “located,” while ensuring they match the actual changes. More precise vocabulary would help distinguish the farm’s continuing agricultural areas from its new visitor facilities.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response communicates its general meaning, but grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. The opening has a repeated article and incorrect agreement: “The diagram illustrate the the plan.” Other examples include “People wants” and “they change,” where subject–verb agreement or tense is faulty. The phrase “from 1950 to todays” also shows problems with tense and form, while “for those who dont like camping” lacks an apostrophe and sits within an otherwise limited range of sentence structures. Most sentences are simple, with few controlled complex forms. Practise accurate past and present forms for comparing plans, and check agreement, articles and punctuation when editing.
