Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two time periods and report several relevant changes, including the farm shop, camping field, solar panels, holiday cottages, and the continued presence of the farmhouse and chicken area. However, the overview is unclear: it says the diagrams show “different sites” and “some changes” without summarising the main transformation of the farm. Some details are inaccurate or imprecise. For example, the sheep area is replaced by the camping field and solar panels/parking, rather than “half” being replaced by these features; the barn is not simply replaced, as a barn remains in a new position. The account also gives limited detail about the retained fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable plots. A clearer overview and more precise comparisons would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable sequence: it first describes the 1950 plan and then moves to the present-day plan. Phrases such as “In detail” and “moving on to the next picture” help signal this shift, and the reader can follow the broad comparison. However, the organisation within each section is not consistently clear. The opening overview repeats the task rather than establishing the main changes, while the long final paragraph combines several unrelated features. References such as “the other side of roads” and “this diagram” are vague, and some transitions are mechanical. Grouping the information by location or by what has changed and remained would create a clearer progression and make relationships between features easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “river,” “tracks,” “fruit trees,” “camping field,” and “solar panels,” so the reader can identify many of the features being compared. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description less precise, such as “sit” for “site,” “trancks,” “holyday cottages,” and “chicken area.” Phrases such as “different sites of the farm” and “make a comparision” are also unnatural in this context. Use accurate terms for map changes, for example “converted into,” “remained,” and “was relocated,” and check spelling carefully. More precise location language would also help distinguish the two parking areas and the barn’s new position.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example with “while” and “when,” but these structures are often incomplete or difficult to follow. Errors include “The plan illustrate,” “it can been seen,” and “there was a river and on other side sheep area presented,” involving agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. Tense and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “Barn replaced with holyday cottages.while the barn connected with roads corner.” Most sentences therefore require the reader to work out the intended relationships. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use the past tense for 1950 and present tense for today. Check articles and punctuation when joining clauses.
