Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies the topic and gives a broad comparison, noting that new facilities have appeared and that tracks have become roads. However, it does not adequately summarise the plans: it gives no specific locations or changes to existing features, such as the retained fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas, or the farmhouse and chicken enclosure. The overview is also too general to show the main pattern of development. The response is substantially below the required minimum length, leaving the task only minimally addressed. To improve, write a complete overview and compare several key features from 1950 with their positions or uses today.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by an overview, and “In contrast” signals a comparison. This gives the reader a simple starting point, but the response ends before it develops into a clear account of the plans. The relationship between the list of new facilities and the statement about tracks becoming roads is not explained, and there are no further paragraphs or linking phrases to guide the reader through the site. A fuller response should group related changes—for example, agricultural areas, access routes and new visitor facilities—and use clear sequencing such as “in the north-east” or “to the south of the farmhouse.”

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response uses a few relevant terms from the task, including “farm shop,” “parking,” “solar panel,” “camping field,” “holiday cottages” and “tracks.” This shows some topic vocabulary, but the range is very limited and several items are misspelled: “pannel” and “feild.” The phrase “many changes … like” is informal and imprecise for an academic summary, while “the tracks are change in roads” does not express the intended change naturally. Use precise map language and accurate forms, such as “facilities were added,” “tracks were converted into roads,” and “the site now includes.” Describing locations would also allow more varied vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both a simple opening and a more complex overview beginning with “Overall,” and the main idea remains understandable. However, grammatical control is uneven. “The diagram illustrate” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “in 1950 to today” uses an incorrect time construction. The sentence “the tracks are change in roads” also has an incorrect verb form and does not clearly express the comparison. Most of the writing relies on short, basic clauses, so there is little evidence of a wider range of structures. Practise accurate past-to-present comparisons, for example: “In 1950, the site had tracks, whereas today these routes have been replaced by roads.”
