Student answer (Band 6.0)
The two maps illustrate the changes that have taken place at beechwood farm 1950 and the present day.
Overall, we can clearly see that there are several changes in present farm compare to beechwood farm. there are many significant development, with several advance facilities.
To begin with 1950 beechwood farm, a large area of northern of the farm was used for sheep while, fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables were in central of farm. Furthermore, barn, farmhouse and chicken shops were West South of the farm. A river flowed along the southern boundary of the farm.
On the other hand we can see in today's farm, there are several solar panels, campling fieid and two parkings contructed northern of the farm. However, farm shop builled in fruit trees which located central of farm. In addition, holiday cottages have been built near the farmhouse. Morever, the barn has been relocated to the south of the central road. Meanwhile, the fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetable fields, farmhouse and chiken area have remained largely unchanged.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify the main contrast between the farm in 1950 and today, and include several relevant changes: the addition of solar panels, a camping field, parking, a farm shop and holiday cottages, as well as the barn’s relocation. The overview also recognises that the site has been developed. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: the farmhouse and chicken enclosure are not described as being in the “West South,” and the barn is not simply south of the central road; it is positioned south-west of the farmhouse at the southern end of the road junction. The claim that the fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables have remained largely unchanged also overlooks their changed arrangement and the farm shop’s location. More precise comparisons and a clearer overview of what stayed and what changed would strengthen the report.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about 1950 and a paragraph about today. This gives the reader a basic chronological comparison, and linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In addition” help signal shifts between points. However, some connections are mechanical or do not express the relationship accurately; “However” introduces the farm shop without a clear contrast, while “Meanwhile” precedes a list of features said to be unchanged. The sequence within the present-day paragraph also moves between northern additions, the shop, cottages and the barn without consistently guiding the reader around the plan. Grouping features by location and using clearer references to the road, river and buildings would make the progression more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “boundary,” “solar panels,” “holiday cottages” and “relocated,” and these choices help communicate the main developments. However, the range and control are uneven, with several inaccurate or awkward expressions that make details less clear. “Chicken shops” does not describe the enclosure, “two parkings” is not a natural way to refer to two parking areas, and “campling fieid” and “contructed” contain spelling errors. Phrases such as “significant development” and “advance facilities” are also vague or imprecise for describing specific changes on a plan. Aim for accurate labels and natural collocations, such as “chicken enclosure,” “two parking areas” and “new facilities,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “the farm shop … which located central of farm” and a contrastive opening with “On the other hand.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “changes … at beechwood farm 1950” needs a preposition and article, and “there are many significant development” has a subject–verb agreement and plural-form problem. The present-tense description also shifts inconsistently between forms such as “have been built” and “have remained,” while “which located” is missing a verb. Use complete clauses, check articles and agreement, and keep tense choices consistent when comparing the past with today.
