Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response identifies that the maps compare the farm in 1950 with today and attempts to describe changes, but it reports only a small number of features and does not provide a clear, accurate overview of the site’s main transformation. The claim that the sheep area was replaced by solar panels and camping is broadly relevant, but the panels and camping occupy only part of the former open area. The statement that the barn was replaced by holiday cottages is inaccurate: the barn remains, while the cottages are south of the eastern road and the farmhouse. Several important changes, including the farm shop, parking, and the retained fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas, are omitted. The response is also 27 words below the required minimum. Develop a fuller comparison and check each location against the plans.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, beginning with an introduction and then moving to details, with linking expressions such as “in addition,” “furthermore” and “as a result.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the description jumps between the upper and lower parts of the map, and the relationships between features are not clearly expressed. The sentence beginning “furthermore, on the bottom of map” becomes confusing and ends with the fragment “as a result The barn.” The final overview repeats the general idea of change without summarising the main changes. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and for grouped location changes, and make each linking phrase connect ideas logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “maps,” “site,” “sheep area,” “solar panels” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can recognise the general topic. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or misspelled choices make meaning harder to understand: “great chances” appears to mean major changes, “manufactures” does not describe the new farm facilities, and “parling” is presumably intended to be parking. There are also inconsistent capital letters in phrases such as “New manufactures” and “Holiday cottages.” Build a more precise set of map-description terms, such as “was converted into,” “is situated,” “remains,” and “to the north-east of,” and check spelling before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and more complex sentence forms, for example, “it can be clearly seen that…” and “according to the plans…,” but control is inconsistent and errors frequently interrupt the message. Examples include “the site of farm” instead of a correctly formed noun phrase, “have been witnessed” where the site should be the subject of an active change, and “the sheep area located” without a finite verb. The sentence about the barn and cottages is also incomplete, ending with “as a result The barn.” Punctuation and sentence boundaries are unreliable, with missing spaces after commas and abrupt capitalisation. Practise accurate present and past forms, articles, and complete sentences before adding longer clauses.
