Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad change from a smaller farm in 1950 to a more developed site today, and mention several relevant features, including the farm shop, camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the comparison is only partly developed: important changes to the layout and continued land uses are not clearly explained. Some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the 1950 plan shows the barn, farmhouse and chicken enclosure south of the eastern track, not “between in track and river”; the maps do not show a bridge; and the sheep area is north of the track. The overview that the farm is “small” in the past and “big” today is also too general. Select the main changes and describe their positions accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic overall structure: it introduces the maps, describes the earlier site, and then moves to today using “Meanwhile.” This gives the reader a general sense of the comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear, and several details are presented as a list rather than grouped by location or type of change. Phrases such as “After crossing the road” and “the other side of road” do not make the locations easy to follow. The final sentence, “other kind of things still common,” is also vague. Organise the report around clear areas of the site or distinguish retained features from new developments, using precise references such as “to the north-east” and “south of the farmhouse.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “river,” “track,” “solar panels,” “camping field” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can recognise several features. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations make the description difficult to understand. “Revolutationizing” is not an appropriate way to describe changes to the site, while “big from the past farms” and “two parkings” are unnatural. “Infront” should be written as two words, and “other kind of things” is too vague for an academic summary. Use accurate, specific terms such as “redeveloped,” “larger,” “two parking areas” and “features retained from 1950.” This would make the comparisons clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a few longer structures, such as “after … the farm has many changing,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and errors are frequent enough to make some relationships unclear. Examples include “in past about 1950,” “from the Beechwood Farm had,” and “The Barn and chickens were between in track and river.” These show problems with articles, sentence construction and prepositions. Tense control is also inconsistent: the maps compare a past layout with the present, but “the farm has many changing” does not express this accurately. Punctuation is sometimes missing after full stops, as in “site.It.” Practise clear past-versus-present sentences, for example, “In 1950, the site included a sheep field; today, it has a camping field.”
