Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two time periods and give a general overview that new facilities have been added, including parking, solar panels, cottages, a camping field and a farm shop. You also note that the fruit trees, soft-fruit and vegetable areas, farmhouse and chicken enclosure remain in place, which captures some important continuity. However, several details are unclear or inaccurate: the barn was not added to the south-west; the original barn remains, while a new barn is shown near the southern road junction. The description of the road changes and the locations of facilities is also difficult to follow, and the camping field is not clearly reported in the body. To strengthen the response, compare the main changes systematically and describe locations precisely. (Eight words copied from the task prompt were not counted.)
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has an opening, an overview and two body paragraphs, so there is an attempt to organise the information. Some linking expressions, such as “Overall,” “To begin with” and “Moreover,” help signal movement between points. However, the body does not follow a clear spatial or thematic order: it shifts from the centre to the east, then west, then south-west, before returning to the south-east. Several links are inaccurate or incomplete, including “In spite of,” which does not introduce a clear contrast, and repeated “Moreover.” References such as “it” and “the right side” are also unclear. Group the changes by area or by what stayed versus what changed, and use fewer, more precise transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “facilities,” “converted,” “holiday cottages,” “solar panels” and “fruit trees,” and you attempt to describe locations with terms such as “east side” and “south east.” However, the range is limited and several choices make the meaning difficult to understand. For example, “chicken shop” appears to mean the chicken enclosure, while “Bam” is used for “barn”; “road will crosses the all side” is not a natural way to describe the internal road. Phrases such as “farm shop will be open” also suggest opening hours rather than a new feature. Use accurate labels and collocations, such as “the road runs through the site” and “a farm shop was added.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to use different sentence forms, including a comparison in “as compared to 1950” and a passive construction in “has been converted.” However, grammatical errors are frequent, and they often make relationships between features hard to follow. Examples include “road will crosses,” where the verb form is incorrect, and “fruit trees are remains same,” which has faulty agreement and verb construction. Articles and prepositions are also often missing or misplaced, as in “in centre of farm” and “below the parking near by the road.” Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are inconsistent, particularly in the long body paragraph. Practise accurate simple present and past forms for map descriptions, then combine them with controlled clauses such as “while” or “whereas.”
