Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the maps as a comparison of the farm in 1950 and today, and it notes the contrast between the earlier agricultural site and the newer facilities. It also reports some relevant 1950 features, including the three crop areas, sheep, and the farm buildings. However, the account is incomplete: it stops mid-sentence at “Nowadays, at the Fru” and therefore gives almost no description of the present-day changes, such as the farm shop, camping field, solar panels, parking, or holiday cottages. The overview is also broad rather than a clear summary of the main transformations. The response is 35 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the limited coverage. To improve, complete the comparison and select the most significant changes in both periods.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening overview is followed by a paragraph about 1950, and time markers such as “In 1950” and “Nowadays” indicate a chronological comparison. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is interrupted because the final paragraph ends abruptly at “Nowadays, at the Fru,” leaving the comparison unfinished. Within the 1950 description, locations are listed in a sequence, but phrases such as “at the west site” and “at the middle” do not establish relationships clearly. The overview also repeats “Beechwood farm” without developing the contrast. Use complete, clearly grouped paragraphs and linking phrases that show how the present layout differs from the earlier one.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses some task-relevant vocabulary, including “fruit trees,” “soft fruit,” “vegetables,” “sheep,” “barn,” and “river,” so the reader can recognise several map features. It also attempts to describe change with “development” and “facilities.” However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or unclear, including “illustare,” “serveral of plant fruit,” “planting fruits,” and “chicken farm.” “Track roads” is also imprecise for the routes shown. These errors sometimes make the intended meaning difficult to follow. Build a bank of accurate map-description terms, such as “crop plots,” “road branches,” “was replaced by,” and “was converted into,” and check spelling and collocations before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts both simple and more developed sentences, including “Overall, The Beechwood farm site in 1950 were not development as much as Beechwood farm nowadays” and “there were barn, famhouse and chicken farm that near river.” These attempts show an effort to compare periods and describe locations, but control is inconsistent. Errors include subject–verb agreement (“site … were”), tense and verb form (“were not development”), missing articles (“there were barn”), and incomplete clause structure (“that near river”). The sentence beginning “At the northest site” also has an unclear construction. Most sentences are understandable only with effort, and the unfinished final sentence prevents the present-day description from being expressed. Practise accurate past and present forms, articles, and complete clauses before adding more complex structures.
