Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant changes, including the solar panels, farm shop and holiday cottages. However, the comparison is only partial and some details are inaccurate: the present-day plan shows one camping field, not “two camping field[s],” and the barn and chickens are not simply in the same arrangement as before—the barn has moved, while the chicken enclosure remains near the farmhouse. The 1950 description also misplaces the farmhouse and barn “near the river” and gives little account of the original layout. A clearer overview of the main transformation, followed by accurate comparisons of the fields, buildings and access roads, would make the response more complete and better supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic time-based structure: it first describes 1950 and then turns to the present with “And the second hand.” This helps the reader recognise the intended comparison, and some linking words, such as “moreover” and “because,” are attempted. However, the ideas within each section are crowded into long, loosely connected sentences, so the progression between locations is difficult to follow. The repeated use of “and also” and the unclear reference in “the main changing area is middle of river and roads” weaken cohesion. Organise the report into a brief overview and separate, logically ordered descriptions of each plan, using clear location references such as “to the east” and “south of.”
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “river,” “track,” “solar panels,” “farm shop” and “holiday cottages,” which allows the reader to identify several features. However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing plans. For example, “big and beautiful sheep” adds an unsupported opinion, while “two camping field” misreports the map and “connected to road and parking” is imprecise. Repeated general words such as “available” and “changes” also limit precision. Build a more varied set of map-description terms, including “located,” “situated,” “remained,” “was replaced by” and “access road,” and check spelling and word forms such as “second” and “connected.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts to connect ideas using longer sentences, but these structures are often faulty, and control of basic sentence forms is inconsistent. Examples include “farm have one river,” where the verb does not agree with the subject, and “farmhouse locatedin right side,” which lacks a finite verb and has unclear article and preposition use. The opening sentence, “This map illustrates the site of a farm in 1950 or same site now a day's,” also has an incomplete comparison structure. Commas and conjunctions are used to join several independent ideas, producing run-on sentences. Use accurate simple past and present forms for the two plans, and practise building shorter sentences with clear subjects and verbs before adding subordinate clauses.
