Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant changes, including the camping field, parking, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the comparison is only partially accurate and the main changes are not clearly summarised. For example, the farm shop is new today, rather than present in both plans, and the sheep area is not described as having a boundary wall beside the camping field and parking. The account also misplaces the barn and road changes, while saying the chickens and farm areas remain the same overlooks the substantial changes to the site’s facilities and layout. Include a clear overview of the main transformation, then report the key changes by location using the plans accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response follows a broadly chronological comparison, moving from features in 1950 to changes today, and phrases such as “In 1950” and “now” help signal time. However, there is no clear overview, and the ideas are crowded into one paragraph, so the reader has to work to follow the comparisons. References such as “the opposite side,” “the right right side,” and “the backside of that parking” are not consistently clear. Some links also create confusing relationships between features. Organise the response into an introduction, an overview, and one or two paragraphs grouped by area or type of change. Use precise location references and linking phrases to make each comparison easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “fruit trees,” “camping field,” “holiday cottages,” “parking area” and “solar panels,” which allows you to identify several features. However, the range is limited and some choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “side plans,” “two sided boundary wall,” “Barn area” and “on the backside.” Repetition of “area” and “road” also makes the description less precise. Spelling errors such as “avaialbale” distract from the meaning. Build a more varied set of terms for describing map changes and locations, for example “was replaced by,” “was converted into,” “to the north of” and “adjacent to,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to compare past and present using past and present forms, and some basic sentence meanings can be understood. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors are frequent enough to make several relationships difficult to follow. Examples include “In 1950 the fruit trees … on one side where is a farm shop,” “One the opposite side … their was,” and “there is a holiday cottages.” These show problems with clause construction, verb forms, agreement and articles. Tense is also inconsistent in “Chickens area and farm areas will be the same.” Practise building clear comparison sentences with accurate past and present forms, and check each sentence for a complete clause, correct agreement and appropriate articles.
