Student answer (Band 5.0)

the plans below show a beechwood farm during two different periods of time.

where we can see a changing in the sheep area on top right below the road, a solar panels were added and and a camping field too, we can a parkings on both solar panels area and the camping field, on the left side we see fruit trees and a farm shop added, soft fruits and vegetables that didn't change since the year 1950.

however, i see a barn right under the road in front of the vegtables area and on the right i can see holiday cottages and a framehous that also did not change since the year 1950

The whole area is surrounded with a road on top and a river on the right and the down side of the farm. And it is separated with a road in the midlle where it separates the fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, chikenes that stayed the same from 1950 until this day, the framhouse, the barn from the shhep area that became a camping fieled and a parking station in today's world.

I alsow see the trak was transformed into rods too.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several relevant changes, including the addition of solar panels, a camping field, a farm shop and holiday cottages, and you note that the farmhouse and some agricultural areas remain. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: it does not give a clear overview of the main transformation, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the river is described as being on the right, although it borders the south-west and southern edges, and the barn is not “right under the road in front of” the vegetables. The claim that the sheep area changed into a camping field and parking also oversimplifies the new layout. Compare the two plans more precisely and distinguish additions, retained features and relocated roads.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation: the response first mentions changes in the northern area, then discusses buildings and the site layout. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several different comparisons are crowded into long sentences, and the final paragraph repeats features already mentioned. Connectors such as “however” and “and” do not always show the relationship between ideas clearly; for instance, the sentence beginning “The whole area is surrounded…” shifts from boundaries to internal divisions without a clear transition. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and for grouped details, such as the western fields and the eastern buildings. More precise referencing would also help readers understand which features stayed in place and which were added.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “camping field,” “solar panels,” “holiday cottages” and “river,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the description less clear, such as “parkings,” “framehous,” “chikenes,” “trak” and “rods.” Some phrases are also imprecise: “a changing in the sheep area” and “in today’s world” do not describe map changes naturally. Aim for accurate map vocabulary and collocations, such as “the sheep pasture was replaced by…” or “a new access road was added.” Check spelling carefully, and use “parking area” rather than the uncountable-looking plural “parkings.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts longer sentences and uses time references such as “since the year 1950,” but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between features hard to interpret. For example, “a solar panels were added” has problems with article and agreement, while “soft fruits and vegetables that didn’t change” is an incomplete clause in its context. The sentence beginning “And it is separated with a road…” also has unclear structure and repeats “where it separates.” Tense and agreement need more consistent control when comparing past and present plans. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine related information with accurate clauses—for example, “The farmhouse remained, while the track was converted into roads.”
