Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the broad transformation from a sheep-farming area to a site with tourism and energy-related facilities, and you note several relevant changes, including the camping field, solar panels, farm shop, parking and holiday cottages. However, the account is only partly complete and some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the sheep field is replaced by the camping field and solar panels, but the solar panels occupy the north-east corner rather than simply replacing the whole sheep field. The farm shop is between the fruit trees and internal road, not north of the fruit trees. Saying there is “no change” to the farmhouse and barn also misses that the barn has moved. Give a clearer overview and describe the main changes more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an introduction, a broad overview, two detail paragraphs and a concluding sentence. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and words such as “Firstly” and “By contrast” attempt to connect the information. However, progression is not always clear: the second detail paragraph begins with the fragment “By contrast, separate place associated for parking,” and several features are crowded into long sentences. The relationship between the original and current layouts is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the sentence about the sheep field, track and farm shop. Group changes by area or by what has remained versus what has been added, and use clearer linking and reference so each comparison follows logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “occupied,” “converted,” “located,” “southeast” and “unchanged,” and you attempt to describe land use rather than merely list labels. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which can make details harder to understand. For instance, “energy storing” is not a natural description of the solar panels, while “vehicle way” is less suitable than “internal road.” “Separate place associated for parking” is also unclear. Spelling errors such as “differnce,” “pannels,” “feild” and “toady” are noticeable. Build a more precise set of terms for map changes and check spelling and natural word combinations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, but control is inconsistent, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. The opening has subject–verb disagreement in “The two figures shows,” while “their exists” has an incorrect verb form. Articles and sentence construction are also problematic in “There also exists farm shop,” and “By contrast, separate place associated for parking” is not a complete sentence. Tense and phrasing are awkward in “had changed” and “had introduced toady,” and punctuation is often missing after sentence boundaries or around linking words. Practise accurate present and past forms for comparing maps, and make sure each sentence has a clear subject and verb before adding extra clauses.
