Student answer (Band 5.5)

Here is comparsion of Bechwood farm in 1950 and at present. There was a lot changes happen during this period.Start from the upper side where in past was a sheep section, now its upgarded installation of Solar panels, camping field along with parking.

Below this, there was a track now has been changed to proper road by making three way chowk in centre such as one road go outside, and in upper side of road is parking, and on lower side holiday cottages, farmhouse , chickens section, and other road have vegetables, soft fruits, and fruit trees, along with farm shop there. And third one joining two roads to barn.

In the lower side of Beechwood farm, there is a river which covers all of farm house and add beautifcation in farm. Previous look of farm now totally transformed by adding different things in it. One thing to remember, there was highway which comes across farm and have a bridge over the river.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main change from a sheep area to facilities including solar panels, camping and parking, and you mention the farm’s roads, crops, cottages and buildings. However, the comparison is only partly clear: the overview that the site was “totally transformed” is broad, and several locations or changes are imprecise. For example, the river does not “cover all of farm house”; it runs along the south-western and southern edges. The claim that a highway crosses the farm and has a bridge over the river is not supported by the plans. To strengthen the response, describe the main changes accurately and distinguish what remained, such as the fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas, farmhouse and chicken enclosure, from new features such as the shop and cottages.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic sequence, moving from the upper part of the site to the roads and then the lower area, and it uses some time and place references such as “in past,” “now” and “in the lower side.” However, the progression is not consistently easy to follow. The second paragraph combines several road branches, parking, cottages, crops and buildings in one long sentence, making their relationships unclear. The final paragraph shifts from the river to a general comment and then to the highway without a clear link. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and for the main areas of change, and connect each feature to a clear location or comparison. This would make the organisation more coherent and reduce the list-like effect.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a farm plan, including “solar panels,” “camping field,” “holiday cottages,” “vegetables” and “fruit trees.” There are also attempts at more descriptive language, such as “transformed” and “beautification.” However, the range is limited and several choices or spellings are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear: “chowk” is not an appropriate term for a road junction in this context, while “upgarded” and “comparsion” are misspelled. Phrases such as “a lot changes happen” and “proper road” are also imprecise. Build a more accurate set of map-description terms, including “junction,” “branch,” “located,” “replaced” and “remained,” and check spelling and collocation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentence forms, but control is limited and errors occur frequently. Examples include “There was a lot changes happen,” which has an incorrect noun phrase and verb construction, and “now its upgarded installation,” where the sentence structure and verb form are faulty. In “one road go outside,” the subject and verb do not agree, and the sentence beginning “Below this, there was a track now has been changed” joins clauses without a clear grammatical link. Articles and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “farmhouse , chickens section.” Practise forming accurate past-versus-present comparisons, for example, “The track has been replaced by a road,” and use shorter, complete sentences before attempting longer descriptions.
