The plans below show the site of a farm in 1950 and the same site today.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The plans below ilustrate the location of Beechwood farm in two different eras in 1950 and the same location today.
Over all, some areas from the old farm are not changed, as fruit trees farm, soft fruits farm, vegetables farm and the farm house still in the same position as it was. While new areas are added nowdays such as the farm shop, two parking areas, holiday cottages with construction of a camping field, beside changing the location of the barn and opening a new area for solar panels, more over moving from sheep uprising to only chicken.
The farm in 1950 composed from the three farms for fruit, soft fruits and vegetables on the main wat and between the river and the track, and on the lest side of the trach there is the sheep area, and if you walk straight on the track it would split into two tracks forming a trinagle shaped area leading to barn, farm house and the chicken farm listed from above to down respectivly.
Now days a Farm shop is constructed in the area for fruit tres and a new parking launched on the left of the track after the main entrance fron the high way. The new camping field by the first parking is opened, next to it the solar panels are put with the second parking below. The triangular area from the roads met at the point of the retranslocated barn and beside it the new holiday cottages , the same located farm house and the chicken uprising area are located.
As many areas and farm still in the same position as(fruit trees farm, soft fruits farm, vegetables farm and the farm house), other is relocated as the barn, while new regoins are built as the farm shop, two parking areas, holiday cottages with construction of a camping field.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main contrast between the 1950 farm and its present-day use, and your overview notes that several agricultural areas remain while new facilities have been added. You also correctly mention the relocation of the barn and the continued position of the farmhouse and chicken area. However, some details are unclear or inaccurate: the sheep area has been replaced by a camping field, rather than by “only chicken,” and the barn is not simply beside the cottages; it is at the southern end of a road junction, southwest of the farmhouse. The description of the 1950 track layout is also difficult to follow. To strengthen the report, select the most important changes and describe their locations precisely, while avoiding repeated summaries.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate descriptions of the earlier and current plans. This gives the reader a basic sense of progression. However, the final paragraph repeats much of the overview, and several long sentences combine multiple locations and changes without clear relationships. For example, the sentence beginning “Now days a Farm shop…” moves from the shop to parking, camping, solar panels, the barn and cottages in quick succession. Linking expressions such as “while,” “beside,” and “more over” are sometimes awkward or unclear, and references such as “it” do not always identify a specific feature. Grouping changes by area and using clearer transitions would improve the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “river,” “track,” “parking,” “holiday cottages,” and “solar panels,” and you attempt to describe spatial relationships. However, inaccurate word choice and spelling sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “farms” for the individual plots, “main wat” for what appears to be the main way or track, “sheep uprising,” and “retranslocated barn.” Some phrases are also unnatural, such as “a new parking launched” and “the same located farm house.” Use precise labels from the plan and standard location phrases, such as “plot,” “field,” “north of,” and “at the junction.” Check spelling carefully, especially for repeated key features.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including comparisons with “while” and clauses describing routes and locations. However, errors in sentence structure and verb forms are frequent enough to make several passages hard to interpret. For instance, “some areas from the old farm are not changed” needs a more accurate passive construction, while “The farm in 1950 composed from…” is missing a correctly formed verb phrase. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “other is relocated” and the long sentence beginning “The triangular area from the roads…”. Aim for shorter, complete sentences, and check that each has a clear subject and verb. Use consistent present and past forms when comparing the two plans.
