Student answer (Band 5.5)

The images demonstrate the comparison between Beech wood farm of 1950s and current time farm. Images show the significant changes has been made in this farm over the span of decades. River across the farm remained same for these years. Agricultural diversification can be seen as farm shop, camping field, parking lot on two sides and solar panels have been set up over this duration. Holiday cottages and Barn has been made there. The track has been transformed into Road so easily accessible for individuals as they are coming in vehivle and the heavy traffic can also use this. Sheep area for livestock grazing has been exchanged by trees, parking lots and camping fields.Coop area is also available in both pictures that shows it existed for the whole duration.

In conclusion, the farm has been greatly modified that it would definitely be more interesting and an exciting place for new generation to hang out in such a refreshing place that could give them fresh water, air and food.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the river’s continued presence, the addition of a farm shop, camping field, parking and solar panels, and the conversion of the track into a road. You also note that the sheep area has been replaced and that chickens remain. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not clearly summarise the broader shift from a mainly agricultural farm to a site with visitor facilities, while retaining some farming. Some details are inaccurate or unclear, such as saying the barn was newly made, although a barn appears on both plans. The final claims about fresh water, air and food are not shown by the maps. Select and compare the main changes more precisely, and avoid unsupported conclusions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: it begins with a general comparison, lists several changes, and ends with a conclusion. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, most details are crowded into one long paragraph, and the sequence shifts between the river, new facilities, access, sheep and chickens without a clear spatial or thematic grouping. The conclusion then introduces ideas about the farm being a place to “hang out” rather than summarising the map changes. Some links are also awkward, particularly “Sheep area … has been exchanged by trees, parking lots and camping fields.” Organise the report into an overview and focused detail paragraphs, grouping changes by area or by what was retained and added.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “agricultural diversification,” “livestock grazing,” “transformed,” and “accessible,” which helps communicate the main changes. Some less common wording is attempted, though collocation and precision are uneven: “parking lot” is less suitable than “parking area” for describing a plan, and “has been exchanged by” is not a natural way to describe land-use change. “Beech wood farm” should be written consistently as the proper name “Beechwood Farm,” while “vehivle” is a spelling error. The phrase “heavy traffic can also use this” is imprecise and not supported by the map. Aim for concise, map-specific terms such as “converted into,” “replaced by,” and “visitor facilities.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the main message is generally understandable. However, some errors in agreement, articles, tense and sentence construction reduce accuracy. For example, “the significant changes has been made” has subject–verb disagreement, and “Holiday cottages and Barn has been made there” has problems with agreement and article use. “The images demonstrate the comparison between Beech wood farm of 1950s and current time farm” is also awkwardly constructed, making the time comparison less clear. The sentence beginning “Sheep area…” lacks an article and has an unclear structure. Use a consistent past-versus-present comparison, check singular and plural subjects, and build longer sentences around clear clauses; for example, “The track has been widened into a road, while the river remains unchanged.”
