Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify several major changes, including the replacement of the track by roads, the removal of the sheep area, and the addition of camping, parking, solar panels and holiday cottages. You also note that some features remained, which gives the response a relevant overview. However, the account is partial and contains inaccuracies: the sheep area was replaced by a camping field, not by parking, and the barn was not destroyed; it remains, although its position/access arrangement changed. The farm shop is also placed imprecisely. The response is 113 words, below the required 150, and this limits the detail and comparisons you can provide. Describe the main changes accurately and add clear location comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: you begin with an overview and then attempt to describe changes and features that remained. Basic linking words such as “Overall,” “Furthermore” and “Moreover” show an effort to connect ideas. However, progression is difficult to follow because the second paragraph repeats the overview and shifts abruptly between locations. Phrases such as “Other side of road” and “At corner of turn of road” do not clearly identify which part of the plan you mean, and the final sentence is unfinished. Group information by area or by what changed and what stayed the same, and use clear references to the site’s directions and landmarks.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “solar panels,” “camping field,” “holiday cottages” and “remained,” so the reader can recognise several features and changes. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate, making parts of the description unclear. For example, “train track” does not match the plan’s track, while “sheep place” and “parkings” are imprecise or unnatural. Spelling errors such as “panals,” “distroyed” and “occured” also reduce accuracy. Learn precise map vocabulary and common collocations for describing changes, such as “was replaced by,” “was converted into” and “was added.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “Furthermore, farmhouse, chickens, vegetables and soft fruit not changed,” but most sentences rely on simple patterns, and errors are frequent. Subject–verb agreement is incorrect in “The plans illustrates,” and articles are missing in “and same site today.” Verb forms and sentence construction are also faulty in “there made build parkings” and “a significant is that train track replaced with road.” The final phrase, “At corner of turn of road a barn,” is incomplete, so its meaning is not fully expressed. Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, agreement and past-tense forms when comparing the two plans.
