Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two time periods and report several relevant changes, including the addition of a farm shop, camping facilities, solar panels, parking and holiday accommodation. You also note that the fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas remain. However, the account is only partial and some key comparisons are unclear or inaccurate. For example, the sheep area is not described as being replaced by parking; the camping field and solar panels occupy the former sheep area. The present-day layout of the barn, farmhouse and chickens is also confused: the barn remains, while the farmhouse and chicken enclosure are still shown. There is no clear overview of the main transformation. State the broad shift from a working farm to a site with visitor facilities, then describe the most important changes accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has some organisation: it begins with the 1950 plan, moves to the present, and uses basic sequencing words such as “Firstly” and “Now.” This gives the reader a general sense of the comparison. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several details are joined in ways that make their relationships difficult to follow. For instance, “the sheep area are covered with the enterence of parking then the left side a big tree near by Camping field houses” combines several locations without clear spatial links. The final sentence also shifts between the road, barn and cottages without making the changes easy to track. Use one paragraph for the overview and separate paragraphs for the earlier and current layouts, with clear location phrases and comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “river,” “track,” “Fruit trees,” “Soft fruits,” “Vegetables,” “Farm shop” and “Solar panels,” so the reader can recognise many features. However, the range is limited and several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “main road links with track road,” “blocks,” “covered with the enterence of parking,” and “close Bard.” Spelling errors such as “differnt,” “chnaged,” “pannels” and “separate” (written as “separate” incorrectly in context) also reduce precision. Aim for standard map-description phrases such as “branches off,” “is located to the east of,” “was converted into,” and “remained unchanged.” Check spelling and use the exact labels shown on the plans.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, but the range of sentence structures is limited, and frequent errors sometimes make the relationships between features difficult to understand. Examples include “The plans illustrate the site of a farm name of Beechwood Farm,” “The river is up below the main road,” and “The Vegetables wall joint with Track,” where sentence construction and verb forms are faulty. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement and tense, as in “the main road on the centre space there were” and “river are same link.” Use the past tense for 1950 and the present tense for today, and build each sentence around a clear subject and verb. Short, accurate sentences with correct articles and prepositions will improve clarity before you attempt longer comparisons.
