Student answer (Band 5.0)

The figures shows changes in the beechwood farm from 1950 till today. Many of the things had been changed since then .

it is clearly seen that fruits tree, soft fruits and vegetables are still there even today.Barn location had changed to holiday cottages and now it is between chickens and vegetable shop.

There were no parkings then ,due to fact that it wasn't much populated.Comparing the North side of the farm we clearly see it was all sheep area in 1950 but now it is replaced by parkings on either sides, in middle is camping field and north west corner there are Solar panels plates.

Iwnfrastructure of the beechwood farm has completely change, there is also a small farm shop with fruit and sheep .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify that the farm has changed and mention several relevant features, including the retained fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables, and the new camping and parking areas. However, the account only partially covers the plans: the overview is vague, and some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the barn has not been replaced by holiday cottages; the barn remains, while cottages have been added near the farmhouse. The phrase “vegetable shop” also misidentifies the farm shop, which is between the fruit trees and the internal road. The response is 25 words below the required minimum, which limits the detail you can include. To improve, give a clear overview of the main changes and accurately compare the buildings, access roads and land uses.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: you begin with a general statement, then compare features of the farm and finish with a comment about infrastructure. This gives the reader a basic sense of the topic. However, the progression is not consistently clear, and the short paragraphs do not develop a systematic comparison of the two plans. Connections such as “Comparing the North side” are useful in principle, but the following description is difficult to follow because the locations are not clearly related to one another. The opening also runs several ideas together. Group information by area or by type of change, and use clear links such as “In the north-east” and “By contrast” to guide the reader through the comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a site plan, including “replaced,” “location,” “camping field” and “Solar panels.” This shows an attempt to describe changes and land uses rather than relying entirely on general language. However, the range is limited, and several word choices or forms are inaccurate or imprecise, sometimes making the intended feature unclear. “Vegetable shop” does not accurately name the farm shop, while “parkings” and “Solar panels plates” are not natural expressions in this context. “Things” and “changed” are also too general for a map description. Build a more precise set of terms for buildings, land use and position, and check spelling and collocations before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes both short statements and some attempts to combine ideas, for example, “Comparing the North side of the farm we clearly see…” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. In “The figures shows changes,” the plural subject requires a plural verb; “Many of the things had been changed” also uses an unsuitable tense and passive construction for describing map changes. Missing spaces after full stops and commas, as well as inconsistent capitalisation, further weaken accuracy. Practise forming clear present-perfect comparisons, such as “The farm has changed considerably since 1950,” and use complete sentences with accurate subject–verb agreement and punctuation.
