Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant features, including the fruit trees, soft fruits, vegetables, barn, farmhouse and chickens. However, the response only partially reports the changes and contains important inaccuracies: the sheep area is not converted into a camping field; the camping field is in a different area, while the sheep area is no longer shown. The overview is unclear, and there is little precise comparison of what has changed or remained. The claim that the farm shop has an attached parking area is also inaccurate. The response is 145 words, below the required 150. To improve, give a clear overview of the main developments and accurately compare the site’s layout in 1950 and today.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an attempted overview, and separate descriptions of the two plans. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is limited, and ideas within paragraphs are often presented as a list rather than connected into a clear comparison. Linking phrases such as “In today farm” and “Then the other things” are repetitive or unclear, while the overview repeats details without establishing the main pattern of change. Improve by grouping related features—for example, land use, access and buildings—and using clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” to show how the present plan differs from 1950.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “fruit trees,” “soft fruits,” “camping field,” “solar panels” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can recognise several map features. However, the range is limited and some phrases are inaccurate or awkward, which makes parts of the description difficult to interpret. Examples include “the plan gave me a two beechwood farm,” “a solar panels place” and “a road passed away.” There are also spelling and word-form slips, such as “fruit tress” and “beechwoodfarm.” Aim for precise map-description language and check collocations and spelling; for instance, describe a road as “running between” two features and say that an area “is used for” a particular purpose.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but grammatical control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between features unclear. For example, “the site of a farm in 1950 and some changes in same site today” lacks a complete, well-formed comparison, while “In today farm include” has problems with the article, subject and verb. Articles and plurals are also unreliable in phrases such as “a fruit trees” and “a solar panels.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation need attention, particularly in the long final paragraph, where several ideas are joined without clear structure. Practise accurate present and past descriptions, and build longer sentences around a clear subject and verb.
