Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two time periods and mention several relevant changes, including the addition of solar panels, a camping field, a farm shop, parking and holiday cottages. However, the response only partially summarises the plans: it gives no clear overview of the main transformation and omits important retained features, such as the river, fruit and vegetable plots, farmhouse and chicken enclosure. Some details are inaccurate or unclear: the sheep area is replaced by a camping field, not a “sheep barn,” and the barn and farmhouse are not simply replaced. The response also falls one word short of the 150-word minimum. To improve, give a concise overview of how the farm has diversified, then compare the main areas accurately and systematically.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic chronological structure: the first section describes 1950 and the second describes the present day. This helps the reader recognise the intended comparison, and words such as “then,” “after that” and “also” provide some linking. However, most information is packed into long, loosely connected sentences, with little punctuation or paragraphing to show relationships between features. The sequence of locations is also difficult to follow, and phrases such as “there is also some charges occur” do not make the connection clear. Organise the response into a short introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the earlier and current layouts. Use clear location-based links, such as “to the east” and “in contrast,” rather than relying on repeated “there is”.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “solar panels,” “camping field,” “farm shop,” “parking” and “holiday cottage,” so the reader can identify several changes. However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations make the meaning unclear. For example, “sheep bar” appears to refer to the sheep area, “tracking path” is not the appropriate term for the internal route, and “some charges occur” does not clearly describe the changes. Repeated use of “there is” also limits precision. Choose accurate map vocabulary and use verbs such as “remains,” “is converted into” and “is added.” Check spelling and word forms, and avoid inventing labels when the plan provides a clearer one.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts to describe both maps and uses some simple linking structures, but sentence control is weak. Most ideas are joined into extended strings without full stops, as in “there is fruit trees field then soft fruits field and after that there is a vegetables.” This creates run-on sentences and makes relationships difficult to follow. There are frequent problems with articles, agreement and verb forms, including “a vegetables,” “it becomes more facilitated” and “a farm shop include.” Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent. Use shorter, complete sentences and check that each has a subject and a correctly formed verb. For example: “In 1950, the site contained fields for fruit, soft fruits and vegetables. Today, a farm shop has been added beside the fruit trees.”
