Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You identify the main change from a sheep area to a site with new facilities, and your overview also notes that the track became a road. You accurately report that the fruit-growing and vegetable areas, farmhouse, chickens and river remain broadly in their original locations. These are relevant comparisons and show coverage of the main features. However, some important changes are omitted or unclear: the barn’s relocation is mentioned only briefly, and the holiday cottages replacing its former site are not described precisely. The farm shop is also not reported. Develop the overview by grouping the changes to farming, access and accommodation, then give clearer location-based details for the new features.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. This gives the reader a basic route through the comparison, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover” and “Whereas” help signal relationships. However, progression is uneven: the second paragraph repeats the overview’s point about the track and sheep area, while the final paragraph adds only the river and does not develop the comparison. Some references are also unclear, such as “one is near to main highway and second one opposite side of holiday cottages.” Organise the details by area or by what changed and stayed the same, and avoid repeating points so each paragraph adds new information.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “parking facilities,” “solar panels,” “holiday cottages,” “river” and “farmhouse,” and you attempt more descriptive language such as “significant development.” This gives you enough range to communicate the broad changes. However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “champing field” appears to mean “camping field,” “huge space of sheep convert” is difficult to interpret, and “yard” is not the best term for the fruit and vegetable plots. “Main highway” is also less precise than “main road.” Aim for accurate collocations and use the labels shown on the map; this will make your comparisons clearer without needing more elaborate vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “Whereas” and a relative clause in “one thing common is river, it still passing around the farm.” However, grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include “track converts in to road,” “holiday cottages takes place,” and “fruit trees, soft fruits and vegetables yard are remain,” where verb forms, agreement and sentence construction are faulty. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “beechwood farm situation” and the comma splice in the final sentence. Use past forms for the 1950 plan and present forms for today, and check subject–verb agreement and complete sentence structure. Clearer, shorter sentences would help you express the comparisons accurately.
