Student answer (Band 6.0)

The given charts illustrate the site of the farm in 1950 and present era after development.

Overall, new facilities such as parking, camping field, solar panels and shop were introduced in the farm after renovation.

In the north east side of map the are was just for sheep in 1950. While, now it is converted into camping field and solar panels. Two new parkings are introduced one on eastern side and other on northern side of farm. The tracks were changed into road. There was a barn on east side, now it was shifted where two road meet on south of map.

Subsquently, holiday cottages were establised on the place of barn. But the chickens and farmhouse remained untouched. On the north western side, a farm shop also introduced front of fruit trees. Lastly, in the center of farm, soft fruits and vegetables area remain same as it was in 1950.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You identify the main change from a sheep area to camping and solar panels, and note the introduction of parking, a shop and holiday cottages. You also compare features that remained, including the farmhouse, chickens and agricultural plots, so the response covers the key before-and-after picture. However, some details are inaccurate or too general: the barn was not simply shifted to where two roads meet; it is shown at the southern end of the road junction, southwest of the farmhouse. The cottages occupy a different area, rather than clearly replacing the barn. The claim that the fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas “remain same” overlooks their changed arrangement and the new road access. More precise location comparisons and a clearer overview of the overall conversion would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs describing changes in different parts of the farm. This helps the reader follow the comparison, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “While,” and “Lastly” signal progression. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “While” begins a fragment-like contrast, and “Subsequently” does not accurately express a sequence of events between the two plans. The movement from the eastern area to the barn and then to the western side is not consistently organised by location, while “the place of barn” leaves the relationship between the cottages and barn unclear. Grouping changes by area and using clearer contrasts such as “whereas” or “in contrast” would make the progression more coherent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use a reasonable range of map-related vocabulary, including “facilities,” “converted,” “introduced,” “remained,” and “north western side.” These choices communicate the broad changes and show some ability to vary wording. However, several expressions are imprecise or unnatural for describing plans: “present era,” “after renovation,” “two parkings,” and “front of fruit trees.” “Shifted” also suggests a relocation more definite than the map supports. Spelling errors such as “Subsquently” and “establised,” along with inconsistent spacing in “parking, camping,” reduce accuracy. Aim for standard collocations such as “today,” “parking areas,” “in front of,” and “was replaced by,” choosing the last only when the plans clearly show replacement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple statements and more complex contrasts, for example, “While, now it is converted into camping field and solar panels.” The main message is generally understandable, but some errors in sentence construction, tense, articles and agreement remain. “In the north east side of map the are was” has an incorrect noun form and missing article, while “the tracks were changed into road” has a number mismatch. The contrast beginning “While” is not a complete, well-formed sentence, and “soft fruits and vegetables area remain same” has agreement and article errors. Tense choices also shift between past and present when describing the current plan. Use complete contrast clauses and keep past forms for 1950 and present forms for today.
