Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two time periods and give a broad overview of continuity and change, noting that the river, crops and chickens remain and that facilities such as cottages, camping and solar panels are new. However, some comparisons are inaccurate or unclear. The sheep area is not simply converted into solar panels, camping and parking: these occupy different parts of the site, while the former sheep area is largely associated with the new camping and solar-panel areas. You also say the farmhouse stays in the same place, although the plans show holiday cottages occupying the area where the barn and farmhouse stood, with the farmhouse relocated. The response selects relevant features, but needs more precise location-based comparisons and a clearer account of the main changes.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, two detail paragraphs and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore” and “whereas” show an effort to connect ideas. However, progression is weakened by repeated summaries: the conclusion repeats the crop and chicken details already given in the overview, while the body moves between locations without a clear organising pattern. Some links are also awkward or unclear, as in “in 1950 barn and farmhouse place while, currently this site modify.” Grouping the description by areas of the map, and using clear contrasts between 1950 and today, would make the sequence easier to follow and reduce repetition.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “converted,” “track,” “holiday cottages,” “camping field” and “solar panels,” so the reader can identify several key features. However, the range is limited and there are frequent inaccurate or unnatural choices that make parts difficult to understand. For example, “the place of a farm” is imprecise, “various same thing” does not express continuity naturally, and “little box of the barn” is not an appropriate description of the building. There are also spelling and word-form problems such as “Thses,” “fruittrees” and “samping.” Aim for precise terms such as “remained,” “was replaced by,” and “relocated,” and check spelling and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a range of sentence patterns, including contrasts with “whereas” and clauses introduced by “Moreover” and “In addition.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors occur in many sentences. For example, “The plans illustrates” has subject–verb disagreement, while “there was an sheep area” has an article error. Tense and sentence construction are also problematic in “this site modify and construct the holiday cottages” and “in 1950 barn and farmhouse place.” Punctuation and spacing around commas are inconsistent, and some clauses are joined in ways that obscure their meaning. Practise accurate past-versus-present forms and build clear sentences with a subject and verb before adding comparisons.
