Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify that the maps compare the farm in 1950 with its present-day layout, and you mention several genuine changes, including the parking, camping field, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the response reports the main features only minimally: the claim that the northern area had “nothing only sheep” is unclear, and the statement that the middle had “three” versus “four” facilities does not explain which land uses changed. Some details are also inaccurate or vague; for example, the eastern area in 1950 contained the barn, farmhouse and chicken enclosure, while the present layout retains these features and adds cottages nearby. The response is 110 words, below the 150-word minimum; the nine words copied from the prompt are excluded. Add a clear overview and describe the key changes more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening, an overall statement and two body paragraphs. The contrast between 1950 and today is also signalled with phrases such as “while today” and “On the other hand.” However, progression is difficult to follow because the descriptions jump between areas without a clear spatial route, and the final comparison about “three types” and “four types” is not explained. Some linking is inaccurate or repetitive, and the second paragraph begins with “To being with” before shifting between northern and eastern areas. Organise the report by location or by major changes, and use clear references such as “in the north-east” and “in the southern part” to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a small set of relevant map terms, including “Parking areas,” “Solar panels,” “camping field,” “Farmhouse” and “Holiday cottages,” so the reader can recognise some of the features being compared. However, vocabulary is basic and repetitive, and several spelling or word-form errors make the description less clear: “similer,” “nowday's,” “Comping,” “nothin” and “facilites.” Phrases such as “several item” and “four types facilities” are also imprecise or unnatural. Use accurate labels from the map and a wider range of change vocabulary, such as “was replaced by,” “was added,” or “remained in the same position.” Proofreading spelling and plural forms would improve clarity.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to form connected comparisons, for example, “while today the sheep areas have several item,” and use a contrast clause beginning “Although.” However, sentence structures are very limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence construction make several statements difficult to interpret. Examples include “the map shows, before the sheep areas there had nothing” and “in today this side including tow Parking”; these need clearer subjects and correctly formed verbs. The opening also has an incomplete comparison structure: “the site of a farm in 1950 and the similer site nowday's.” Practise simple, accurate past-versus-present sentences first, then combine them with clauses such as “whereas” or “while.”
