Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify that the farm has changed and mention several relevant features, including the sheep area, parking, camping, cottages and farm shop. However, the comparison is only partial and some details are inaccurate or unclear: the sheep area is not replaced by solar panels and parking—the camping field and solar panels are in the north-east, while parking is near the road. You also omit important changes such as the new road layout and the continued presence of the fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas. The overview gives a general sense of development but does not clearly summarise the main changes. The response is one word below the 150-word minimum, with eight words copied from the prompt excluded from the count. Develop the overview and report locations more precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to two paragraphs about changes, and connectors such as “Overall,” “For example” and “On the other hand” show an attempt to guide the reader. However, there is no clear progression through the site, and the comparisons are difficult to follow. For instance, “in the location of fruit trees the farm shop which is also built there” does not clearly explain the relationship between the two features. “On the other hand” also introduces a comparison that is not fully developed. Use a consistent route around the map—such as west to east, then south—and connect each old feature directly to its present-day counterpart. Clearer referencing would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “farmhouse,” “chickens,” “parking,” “camping field” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can recognise the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the description imprecise, such as “the place of a farm,” “many other positions” and “changed into the position of.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “pannels” and “replace” where a past participle is needed. These issues sometimes make it hard to understand exactly what changed. Build a more precise set of map-description phrases, such as “was converted into,” “was added to the north-east” and “remained in its original location,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few complex structures, including “as compared to” and “which is also built there,” but sentence control is inconsistent, and errors frequently affect clarity. For example, “The given diagram illustrate” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “there are several changes have been done” combines incompatible verb structures. Tense and agreement are also problematic in “a few type of places was available” and “these sites are replace.” Articles and sentence boundaries need attention as well, as in “In past, a some places are placed.” Practise forming clear past-versus-present comparisons with accurate verb patterns: “In 1950, the area was used for sheep; today, it contains a camping field.” Shorter, controlled sentences will help before adding more complex clauses.
