Student answer (Band 5.0)

The below pictures illustrates a farm called Beechwood Farm in same site but in different years, one in from 1950 and another is from today. Now we will compare the two picture in detailed way.

A lot of things are changed from 1950 to now. The sheep was completly occupied by diferent things like parking, camping field, and also arranged solar panels, and there is no sheep remain today. Before there was no road to go to the from main road to enter in farm but now road is arranged to enter easily. The barn is replaced with holiday cottages, and barn is shifted to in between vegetables and chickens and it also connected to road from two ways. There also arranged a farm shop in fruits trees.

At the end the main change was the sheep before in 1950 there was nothing in sheep but now it completly filled with parking, solar panels and camping fields. And next major change was the road in middle of the farm. And also holidats cottages.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important changes, including the disappearance of the sheep area, the addition of an access road, and the introduction of camping, parking, solar panels and holiday cottages. However, the account is only partly developed: it does not clearly summarise the overall transformation or describe what happened to the fruit, soft-fruit and vegetable areas, which largely remain. Some details are inaccurate or unclear. For example, the barn was not replaced by cottages; the cottages are south of the eastbound road, while the barn remains in a different position near the road junction. The claim that the sheep area was “completely filled” also overstates the map. A more accurate overview and clearer comparisons of the retained and added features would strengthen the response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic three-paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to changes and then a concluding summary. Some progression is evident, and phrases such as “from 1950 to now” help establish the time comparison. However, the final paragraph repeats the sheep-area changes and road addition rather than adding a distinct summary, so the organisation feels repetitive. Several ideas are crowded into long sentences, particularly the sentence beginning “The barn is replaced…”, making the relationships between features difficult to follow. Use one paragraph for the overview and organise the details by area or by what was retained and added. More precise linking and referencing would also make the sequence easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant map vocabulary, including “main road”, “camping field”, “solar panels”, “farm shop” and “holiday cottages”, so the reader can identify many of the changes. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “the sheep was completely occupied by different things” and “there also arranged a farm shop in fruits trees”. Repetition of “change”, “road” and “now” also limits variety. Spelling errors such as “completly”, “diferent” and “holidats” are noticeable and can slow the reader. Aim for precise location and change vocabulary, for example, “the sheep pasture was converted into…” and “a farm shop was added beside the fruit trees”.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response communicates its main points using simple sentences and some attempts at longer structures, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently. The opening has agreement and article problems: “The below pictures illustrates a farm… in same site”. Tense and sentence construction are also unreliable in “The barn is replaced with holiday cottages, and barn is shifted to in between vegetables and chickens”. In addition, “there is no sheep remain today” has incorrect verb structure, while “the two picture” lacks plural agreement. These errors sometimes make the intended relationships unclear. Practise accurate past and present passive forms for map changes, and check subject–verb agreement, articles and plural nouns when editing.
