Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify several important changes, including the replacement of tracks by roads, the addition of a farm shop, parking, camping and solar panels, and the continued presence of the river-side fields and farmhouse area. However, the overview is broad and some details are inaccurate or unclear: the sheep area is not simply transformed into a camping field, as the camping field and solar panels occupy parts of the former open area, while parking is also added. The barn is not replaced; it remains, although its position is described confusingly. The opening also gives 1955 rather than 1950. To make the response more complete, describe the main changes by area and distinguish clearly between features that remain, move, or are newly introduced.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overall statement and a detail paragraph, and it uses a few linking expressions such as “Overall,” “In detail” and “whereas.” This gives the reader some sense of the comparison. However, progression within the detail paragraph is difficult to follow because features from different parts of the site are listed without a clear spatial order. Some links are also awkward or incomplete, particularly “whereas soft fruits, vegetables, farmhouse and chicken are on the same place.” Organise the description by location—for example, the western fields first, then the northern additions, and finally the buildings in the east—and use clear references to show how each feature relates to another.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant map vocabulary, including “river,” “track,” “road,” “farm shop,” “parking area” and “holiday cottages,” so the reader can identify many of the features being compared. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the meaning unclear, such as “difference in map,” “sheep farm,” “fielding camp” and “barren.” Spelling errors such as “situatied” and “totaly” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise terms that match the map, and use natural collocations such as “the track was replaced by a road” and “the former sheep-grazing area was converted.” This would make the description clearer and more appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “whereas,” and the main topic is generally understandable. However, errors are frequent in verb forms, articles, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “that built in 1955” needs a relative clause and passive form, while “track is replace by road” has incorrect tense and verb form. “Two parking area are situatied is” also contains problems with number and sentence structure. Use the past simple for the 1950 plan and the present simple for today, and check passive constructions when describing changes. Short, accurate sentences would help establish control before you add more complex comparisons.
