Student answer (Band 6.0)
In a lot of countries, primary and secondary schools close for two months or more in the summer holidays.
Many believe that the long school holidays are important for kids allowing them to recharge and spend more time with their families.
Others believe that these long holidays should be replaced by shorter holidays and view these type of holidays as a waste of time for kids.
On one hand, long school holidays are important for kids to recharge from a busy year of school and homeworks.
They enjoy their time in holiday and can go on holidays with their families to different places to enjoy and destress.
These long holidays also allow the kids to build deep and meaningful connections with their brothers, sisters and parents.
In Tunisia, primary and secondary students can benefit from up to 3 months of summer school holidays. Many families seize this opportunity to travel and enjoy the nature especially beaches and develop meaningful connections with their kids.
Some kids start their own business such as lemonade juice selling or car washing, others try to learn a craft, a skill or a new language.
On the other hand, many argue that it would be better if these type of holidays replaced by shorter ones.
Long school holidays can bee seen as a waste of time. Kids spend their time hangin around, playing or watching TV for the whole day without learning.
Another point, they also tend to forget what they studied along the previous year which can be negative and lead to more time spent trying to remember .
When i was a secondary student, i always had the habit of forgetting what i studies in the earlier year so i was spending the evenings trying to remember the past lessons.
In conclusion, although long summer school holidays can be seen as waste of time, I believe that are essential for kids to recharge and renew their energies.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address both questions: the first body paragraph explains how holidays allow children to rest, spend time with family, travel, and try activities, while the second gives reasons for shorter breaks, including lost study habits and forgetting lessons. Your examples from Tunisia and your own school experience make the discussion relevant. However, the value of long holidays is developed more fully than the case for shorter holidays, which relies mainly on unstructured leisure and forgetting previous material. The opening also presents the two views, but your final position is only stated in the conclusion. To strengthen the response, explain more specifically how shorter breaks could support learning—for example, by maintaining routines or reducing the need for revision—and make your position clear earlier.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the main line of discussion easy to follow. However, some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear: “Another point” does not smoothly connect the next argument, and the sentence about children starting businesses shifts abruptly from family holidays without a clear transition. There are also punctuation and spacing issues around linking phrases, such as “On the other hand, many argue.” Improve progression by grouping related examples together and using clearer references to show how each example supports the paragraph’s main point. A more explicit thesis in the introduction would also help guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss rest, family relationships, learning, and leisure. Phrases such as “recharge,” “meaningful connections,” “seize this opportunity,” and “develop a craft” show attempts to use more specific language, and the meaning is generally clear. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, however: “homeworks” is not the usual form, “enjoy their time in holiday” is unnatural, and “hangin around” is too informal for an academic essay. There are also spelling errors, including “bee” and “destress.” Aim for more precise academic phrasing and check spelling and collocations carefully. For example, describe children as “spending time idly” rather than “hangin around,” and use “schoolwork” rather than “homeworks.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses with “which” and examples introduced by “such as.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “these type of holidays” needs plural agreement, and “it would be better if these type of holidays replaced by shorter ones” is missing both correct agreement and a passive verb form. In the conclusion, “I believe that are essential” lacks a subject after “that.” There are also sentence-boundary and punctuation problems, such as the comma splice in “Some kids start their own business …, others try to learn.” Work on agreement, complete clause structure, and punctuation between independent clauses. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences clearer.
