Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the essay suffers from significant repetition, as the second half of the text largely restates the first half. This redundancy limits the development of ideas. While the position is clear, the arguments are somewhat simplistic and rely heavily on personal anecdotes rather than broader societal or educational analysis. To improve, ensure each paragraph introduces new points rather than repeating previous ones, and aim for a more balanced exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is disrupted by the repetition of the entire body section. The use of cohesive devices is basic and sometimes mechanical (e.g., 'In conclusion', 'For instance'). The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the transition between the two main arguments is abrupt. The structure would benefit from a more cohesive plan that avoids restating the same points, ensuring that each paragraph contributes uniquely to the overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'children work shorter school holidays' and 'worried on study'. The range is somewhat limited, relying on common words like 'good', 'happy', and 'strong'. To achieve a higher score, you should incorporate more academic vocabulary and precise collocations related to education and child development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'children gets carried away' (subject-verb agreement), 'while playh' (spelling/form), and 'one of my friend's school' (punctuation/possessive). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall clarity. Focusing on subject-verb agreement, consistent verb tenses, and proofreading for minor slips would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
