Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding 'animal cage' is unclear and lacks logical explanation. While the position is clear, the supporting points, such as the mention of 'sports events' or 'historical subjects', are not fully extended or linked back to the core argument effectively. To reach a higher band, you should provide more concrete, logical examples and ensure each point is fully explained rather than just listed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at using cohesive devices like 'On the one hand', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally confusing (e.g., 'which are helps to them'). The logical progression is present, but the transition between ideas within paragraphs could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward collocations and word choice errors, such as 'leaning new skills' (likely meaning 'learning'), 'guiders' (instead of 'mentors' or 'parents'), and 'explore the museum'. The use of 'outside door activities' is also non-standard. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the errors occasionally make the reader pause. Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on correct word combinations (collocations) will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'children are spend', 'which are helps'), incorrect verb forms, and missing articles. These errors are noticeable and occur in almost every sentence, though they do not completely impede communication. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically the correct use of auxiliary verbs and subject-verb agreement. Reducing these frequent errors is essential for moving into the higher band categories.
