Student answer (Band 6.5)

In summer, Primary and secondary schools remained closed more than two months in many countries. I firmly agree with this view as it more advantages than drawbacks.

Most of the the schools offer a long summer holiday which can be seen as a positive aspect as it gives more time to learn other essential skills other than academics. In the modern era, parents are more aware about children’s career and future goals. Furthermore, they help their child develop certain skills like computer courses, English speaking classes, Vedic maths and also Abacas. These courses aid student’s academic learning and expand their knowledge beyond academics. In addition, Children can also develop some hobbies. For instance, I learnt to play guitar during my summer holidays after state board examination.

This can be concern to many parents as student’s spend most of their holidays playing outside and going to picnics. According to parents, children study only when they are in school or when the examination is coming. In contrast, children are wasting their time at home doing nothing. I believe students are able to spend time playing with friends and learning new skills which can help them to explore new choices apart from academics. These activities can help them to remain fit and active.

Despite the drawbacks of long summer holidays, it’s benefits suvh

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the essay is significantly under the 250-word minimum, which limits the depth of development. The conclusion is incomplete, cutting off mid-sentence, which prevents a clear summary of your position. To improve, ensure you fully develop your arguments with more detailed examples and complete your essay structure. The ideas presented are relevant, but the lack of length and the unfinished nature of the text prevent a higher score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some cohesive devices like 'Furthermore', 'In addition', and 'In contrast' to link ideas. However, the progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by the abrupt ending and the limited development of points. The referencing is generally clear, but the overall flow is affected by the incomplete final paragraph. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects back to the main prompt.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'essential skills', 'academic learning', and 'modern era'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'Abacas' (Abacus) and 'suvh' (such), and some awkward phrasing like 'it more advantages than drawbacks' (it has more advantages). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. Try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as 'In the modern era, parents are more aware about children’s career and future goals.' There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('schools remained closed' instead of 'remain') and missing articles ('the the schools'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the incomplete sentence at the end is a significant issue. To improve, focus on consistent verb tense usage and ensure that your complex sentences are constructed accurately without missing articles or prepositions.
