Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the contemporary era, some countries provide a long holidays for summer around two months particularly in primary and secondary schools. It gives pupils a memorable time and get a time to well-prepared for examination. It is certainly a well development. This essay will provide reasons why I believe that it is a positive improvement.

Generally speaking, there is a wide range of reasons for closing primary and secondary schools for two months in the summer holidays. Perhaps the main reason of this is that it provides learners refreshment. For example, when pupils get holidays for a long time they can go for a tour and travel to their home village which gives them a lot refreshment. Another point of worth mentioning is that students can restudy their previous lectures. To cite an example some time learners forget their previous study, so they need a school break so that they can remember the whole note. When they get a long holiday in the summer they can memorize their previous lecture.

On the other hand, it has both negative and positive site on pupil educational life. Firstly, the positive site of this is that learners get enough free time to prepare them for upcoming exam. Secondly, the negative side is student sometimes lose their patience of studying. As a result they sometimes become uneducated person.

In conclusion, some countries provide students a long time vacation around a couple of months as summer holidays. Although it has some drawbacks, benefits outweigh the disadvantages. I think it is necessary for pupils because besides study they need a proper free time to prepare for upcoming exam and refreshment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument that students might 'become uneducated' if they lose the habit of studying is an overgeneralization and lacks logical depth. The position is clear, but the supporting points are repetitive, particularly the focus on 'refreshment' and 'exam preparation' in both the introduction and body paragraphs. To improve, you should provide more nuanced arguments, such as the impact on working parents or the potential for summer learning programs, rather than repeating the same points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Another point of worth mentioning'). Some transitions feel forced, and the logical flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. For example, the transition from the benefits of holidays to the 'negative side' in the third paragraph is abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-developed idea would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', 'positive', and 'negative'. You also struggle with word choice and collocations, such as 'restudy their previous lectures' (instead of 'review') and 'uneducated person' (which is an extreme and inaccurate description of a student who takes a break). To reach a higher band, focus on using more academic vocabulary and ensuring that words are used in their correct context, rather than relying on simple, repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include article misuse ('a long holidays'), subject-verb agreement ('it gives pupils... and get a time'), and awkward phrasing ('it is a well development'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency, and practice constructing more complex sentences with accurate punctuation.
