Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, discussing the value of long holidays and the arguments for shorter ones. However, the development of ideas is limited. For example, the argument that shorter holidays prevent students from forgetting the purpose of study is mentioned but not fully explained or supported with clear logic. The position is generally clear, but the expression of ideas is often repetitive and lacks depth. To improve, you should focus on providing concrete examples or more detailed explanations for each point rather than listing several ideas briefly. The conclusion is also somewhat contradictory, as it restates the benefits of long holidays rather than summarising the arguments for both sides as requested.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'To epitomy' (likely intended as 'To epitomise') and 'In other words' are used incorrectly or do not logically connect the preceding and following sentences. The progression of ideas is sometimes disjointed, particularly within the second paragraph where the transition between 'enhancing skills' and 'relaxation' is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. There are several instances of awkward word choices and non-standard collocations, such as 'brain-stroming power' and 'grasping skills are constant'. Some words are used incorrectly, such as 'convient' (convenient) and 'epitomy' (epitome). While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of precision and the frequent errors in word formation prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary to express your ideas clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'many countries schools... to close'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack a clear main verb, such as 'In short time period to children do not forget...'. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, these are often faulty and contain errors that make the text difficult to read. You should focus on mastering basic sentence construction, specifically ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and a correctly conjugated verb, before attempting more complex structures.
